Container depot and<br />

repair facil<strong>it</strong>y in Antwerp<br />

ACR is a new service offered by AET,<br />

the Group’s North European hub<br />

Established at the beginning of<br />

this year, Antwerp Container<br />

Repair (ACR) is a business<br />

activ<strong>it</strong>y set up by the Group w<strong>it</strong>hin <strong>it</strong>s<br />

North European hub, Antwerp Euroterminal.<br />

ACR aims to complete the set<br />

of services offered by AET. The ACR<br />

facil<strong>it</strong>y has a 2,500 square metres surface<br />

w<strong>it</strong>h a 600 square metres<br />

warehouse, where any kind<br />

of containers can be stored,<br />

maintained and repaired.<br />

This includes reefers as ACR<br />

is f<strong>it</strong>ted w<strong>it</strong>h 24 reefer plugs. The ACR<br />

compound is equipped w<strong>it</strong>h 1 Fantuzzi<br />

Spreader, 1 Kalmar stacker and 3 forklifts<br />

while <strong>it</strong>s water cleaning installations<br />

meet all the tightest environmental<br />

regulations.<br />

Continuous investments in labour organisation<br />

and the ACR modern equipment<br />

maximise the performance in<br />

terms of container diagnosis and customising<br />

while the data system provides<br />

all required reports related to stock<br />

and container movements. ACR has<br />

already reached the target number of<br />

1,000 containers repaired every month<br />

but <strong>it</strong> is improving <strong>it</strong>s productiv<strong>it</strong>y further.<br />

AET handles about 100,000 teu<br />

per year and other than by ship is also<br />

accessible through barge and rail.<br />

The event attracted more than 38,000 vis<strong>it</strong>ors.<br />

In the role of prominent stakeholder<br />

of the port of Antwerp, the <strong>Grimaldi</strong><br />

Group was a major sponsor of the<br />

Antwerp Port Day, held on 5 July. This<br />

in<strong>it</strong>iative was part of the broader Flemish<br />

Port Day promoted by Mr. Kris Peeters,<br />

the Prime Minister of the Flemish government<br />

and Minister of the ports. The<br />

Flemish Port day, organised in the four<br />

Flemish seaports (Antwerp, Zeebrugge,<br />

Ostend, Ghent) offered a unique opportun<strong>it</strong>y<br />

for the general public to vis<strong>it</strong><br />

behind-the-scenes of several terminals,<br />

docks, locks, warehouses and distribution<br />

centres. The event accentuated the<br />

divers<strong>it</strong>y of the port activ<strong>it</strong>ies and equally<br />

promoted the multiple assets of the Port<br />

of Antwerp, <strong>it</strong>s central location and excellent<br />

hinterland connections, specialised<br />

logistics expertise and key role in the ro/<br />

ro traffic, project and steel market.<br />

Besides the infrastructural and operational<br />

aspects of the port sector, the<br />

growing demand for highly productive<br />

experienced, multilingual personnel<br />

was put in the spotlight. At the Job Fair,<br />

the latter evoked a large interest and<br />

showed the strong desire for information<br />

from the public for shipping and logistics<br />

activ<strong>it</strong>ies.<br />

The Job Fair illuminated the high divers<strong>it</strong>y<br />

of employment opportun<strong>it</strong>ies, and<br />

in to this respect the Antwerp Shipping<br />

Association will run a long term recru<strong>it</strong>ment<br />

campaign w<strong>it</strong>h the aim to interest<br />

students in a shipping career and as such<br />

react to the tight labour market envisaged<br />

in the coming years.<br />

W<strong>it</strong>hin the scope of this event three<br />

<strong>Grimaldi</strong> Group companies, namely<br />

Antwerp Euroterminal (AET), <strong>Grimaldi</strong><br />

Belgium and Finnlines were present<br />

at the job fair while the AET terminal<br />

was open to the public, so profiling the<br />

Group’s activ<strong>it</strong>ies.<br />

This event defin<strong>it</strong>ely contributed to a pos<strong>it</strong>ive<br />

image-building for the port sector<br />

and showed that the consistent growth in<br />

the shipping trade has highly diversified<br />

and qualified the range of shipping and<br />

logistics services. The Antwerp Port day<br />

was supported by an extensive media<br />

campaign, w<strong>it</strong>h animation and a VIP evening<br />

for clients, w<strong>it</strong>h more than 38,000<br />

people vis<strong>it</strong>ing the event which resulted<br />

in an unequalled success.
