Container depot and
repair facility in Antwerp
ACR is a new service offered by AET,
the Group’s North European hub
Established at the beginning of
this year, Antwerp Container
Repair (ACR) is a business
activity set up by the Group within its
North European hub, Antwerp Euroterminal.
ACR aims to complete the set
of services offered by AET. The ACR
facility has a 2,500 square metres surface
with a 600 square metres
warehouse, where any kind
of containers can be stored,
maintained and repaired.
This includes reefers as ACR
is fitted with 24 reefer plugs. The ACR
compound is equipped with 1 Fantuzzi
Spreader, 1 Kalmar stacker and 3 forklifts
while its water cleaning installations
meet all the tightest environmental
regulations.
Continuous investments in labour organisation
and the ACR modern equipment
maximise the performance in
terms of container diagnosis and customising
while the data system provides
all required reports related to stock
and container movements. ACR has
already reached the target number of
1,000 containers repaired every month
but it is improving its productivity further.
AET handles about 100,000 teu
per year and other than by ship is also
accessible through barge and rail.

In the role of prominent stakeholder
of the port of Antwerp, the Grimaldi
Group was a major sponsor of the
Antwerp Port Day, held on 5 July. This
initiative was part of the broader Flemish
Port Day promoted by Mr. Kris Peeters,
the Prime Minister of the Flemish government
and Minister of the ports. The
Flemish Port day, organised in the four
Flemish seaports (Antwerp, Zeebrugge,
Ostend, Ghent) offered a unique opportunity
for the general public to visit
behind-the-scenes of several terminals,
docks, locks, warehouses and distribution
centres. The event accentuated the
diversity of the port activities and equally
promoted the multiple assets of the Port
of Antwerp, its central location and excellent
hinterland connections, specialised

logistics expertise and key role in the ro/
ro traffic, project and steel market.
Besides the infrastructural and operational
aspects of the port sector, the
growing demand for highly productive
experienced, multilingual personnel
was put in the spotlight. At the Job Fair,
the latter evoked a large interest and
showed the strong desire for information
from the public for shipping and logistics
activities.
The Job Fair illuminated the high diversity
of employment opportunities, and
in to this respect the Antwerp Shipping
Association will run a long term recruitment
campaign with the aim to interest
students in a shipping career and as such
react to the tight labour market envisaged
in the coming years.
Within the scope of this event three
Grimaldi Group companies, namely
Antwerp Euroterminal (AET), Grimaldi
Belgium and Finnlines were present
at the job fair while the AET terminal
was open to the public, so profiling the
Group’s activities.
This event definitely contributed to a positive
image-building for the port sector
and showed that the consistent growth in
the shipping trade has highly diversified
and qualified the range of shipping and
logistics services. The Antwerp Port day
was supported by an extensive media
campaign, with animation and a VIP evening
for clients, with more than 38,000
people visiting the event which resulted
in an unequalled success.
