Short sea route
New MoS between Northern
Italy, Sicily and Tunisia
On the 2 nd of July the Group launched
the Genoa - Livorno - Palermo - Tunis service
operated by the two sister vessels
Eurocargo Genova and Eurocargo Alexandria
On the 2 nd of July the Grimaldi
Group proceeded to the
launch of a new ro/ro service
between the ports of Genoa, Livorno,
Palermo and Tunis in order to strengthen
its presence in the Western Mediterranean.
This new link, dedicated to the transport
of trucks, trailers, cars and other
rolling freight, is operated by the two
sister vessels Eurocargo Genova and
Eurocargo Alexandria. Both vessels
were designed and built by the Korean
Hyundai Mipo shipyards to meet the
specific needs of this route.
The two vessels have a length of 200
metres, a gross tonnage of 32,700
tonnes, and are each able to transport
about 4,000 linear metres of rolling cargo,
which is equal to 280 trailers, and
200 cars, at a service speed of 23 knots.
Their six wide decks, two of which
hoistable and dedicated to the transport
of cars, were designed to minimize
any potential damage to freight
during transport. Furthermore, thanks
to their ramp they are able to load units
with a weight up to 120 tonnes.
“This initiative proves once more the
commitment of the Group to further
strengthen the maritime links between
North Italy, Sicily and Tunisia” stated
Emanuele Grimaldi, managing director
of the Grimaldi Group. "With the launch
of this new motorway of the sea between
the two shores of the Mediterranean, the
Group will offer an even more reliable
service, satisfying the market’s requirements
by deploying two high performance
vessels, both in economic and
environmental terms. The beneficiaries
will not be only the Italian and foreign
logistics operators, but also the Sicilian
exporters who will have a greater access
to the Western Mediterranean and Tunisia”,
concludes Emanuele Grimaldi.
The new motorway of the sea has
a three-times-a-week frequency
from and to all the ports served.
Southbound departures are every:
- Monday, Wednesday and Saturday
from Genoa to Palermo and Tunis;
- Monday, Wednesday and Friday from
Livorno to Palermo and Tunis;
- Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday from
Palermo to Tunis.
Northbound departures are scheduled
every:
- Monday, Wednesday and Saturday
from Tunis to Palermo, Livorno and
Genoa;
- Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday from
Palermo to Livorno and Genoa.
Thanks to the new link, the Grimaldi
Group offers now a daily service between
Genoa, Livorno and Sicily, alternating
the calls at the ports of Catania
and Palermo.
Barcelona
In April the Group introduced a new
weekly passenger and freight service
linking Barcelona with the Moroccan
port of Tangier.
The route is served by the modern ferry
“Ikarus Palace” which has a length of 200
metres and a 26 metre beam. This fast
ferry can sail at a speed of up to 26 knots
and is able to accommodate up to 1,500
