Finnlines takes delivery of
The first two of the six state-of-the-art new vessels
delivered from the Jinling shipyard in China
Finnlines strengthens its fleet by
announcing the deployment of
the two new ro/ro sister vessels
“Finnbreeze” and “Finnsea” which are
part of a series of six new units ordered
by the company from the Jinling shipyard
over the next two years.
On the 10 th of March a ceremony was
held for the simultaneous christening
of these two new vessels at the Chinese
shipyard. The godmother of the m/vessel
“Finnbreeze” was Finnlines’ CEO
Uwe Bakosch’s wife Kerstin, while the
company chief financial officer, Seija
Turunen did the honours for “Finnsea”.
The two ships have a gross weight of
28,000 tonnes each, a length of 188 metres
and a service speed of 21 knots.
Thanks to their four decks, two of which
hoistable, each of them can carry 3,326
metres of rolling cargo and 600 cars.
Furthermore the vessels have three internal
ramps in order to speed up the
loading operations.
With their rudder/propeller combination
technology and bulbous bow they are
designed to achieve significant improvements
in fuel economy and therefore slot
perfectly into the company’s environmental
programme.
Finnlines is now focusing on reducing
the carbon footprint of its ships across
their life-cycle. Time-planning is an important
tool in reducing CO2 emissions,
as is the optimisation of voyages and
routes to achieve the highest possible
capacity utilisation.
