Subject: THE IMPORTANCE OF TEACHING – THE<br />
SCHOOLS WHITE PAPER 2010: COVERING<br />
REPORT<br />
1. PURPOSE OF THE REPORT<br />
1.1 To inform Members of the Forum that the Assistant Director of Performance<br />
and Achievement has been invited to attend this meeting to deliver a<br />
presentation in relation to the recently published ‘Schools White Paper’.<br />
2. BACKGROUND INFORMATION<br />
2.1 The Schools White Paper was published by the Government in November<br />
2010 and sets out the future of schools including teaching and leadership;<br />
behaviour; curriculum, assessment and qualifications; new schools system;<br />
accountability; school Improvement; and school funding.<br />
2.2 The Assistant Director of Performance and Achievement will be in attendance<br />
at today’s meeting to deliver a presentation in relation to the Council’s role in<br />
education and schools in light of the White Paper.<br />
2.2 Copies of the White Paper were circulated to the Forum on 20 December<br />
2010, please could you bring your copy along to this meeting for your<br />
reference. If you would like another copy please contact the Scrutiny Support<br />

3. RECOMMENDATIONS<br />

That the Children’s Services Scrutiny Forum note the content of the<br />
presentation, seeking clarification on any relevant issues from the<br />
Assistant Director of Performance and Achievement.<br />
