Subject: THE IMPORTANCE OF TEACHING – THE
SCHOOLS WHITE PAPER 2010: COVERING
REPORT
1. PURPOSE OF THE REPORT
1.1 To inform Members of the Forum that the Assistant Director of Performance
and Achievement has been invited to attend this meeting to deliver a
presentation in relation to the recently published ‘Schools White Paper’.
2. BACKGROUND INFORMATION
2.1 The Schools White Paper was published by the Government in November
2010 and sets out the future of schools including teaching and leadership;
behaviour; curriculum, assessment and qualifications; new schools system;
accountability; school Improvement; and school funding.
2.2 The Assistant Director of Performance and Achievement will be in attendance
at today’s meeting to deliver a presentation in relation to the Council’s role in
education and schools in light of the White Paper.
2.2 Copies of the White Paper were circulated to the Forum on 20 December
2010, please could you bring your copy along to this meeting for your
reference. If you would like another copy please contact the Scrutiny Support

3. RECOMMENDATIONS
(a)
That the Children’s Services Scrutiny Forum note the content of the
presentation, seeking clarification on any relevant issues from the
Assistant Director of Performance and Achievement.
