INFORMATION FOR DECISION
Warrant:
Policies of the Halton District School Board require periodic review to ensure they are compliant with
legislation and up to date.
RECOMMENDATION:
Be it resolved that the Halton District School Board approve the Student Trustee Policy
as appended to Report 13084, and that the policy be reviewed following the Student
Trustee elections in 2014.
Rationale:
In order to encourage more student involvement in Halton District School Board Student Senate,
Student Trustees and Senators have reviewed the Student Trustee Policy. This review was done taking
into consideration The Ontario Ministry of Education’s Regulations 7/07 and 298, the Halton District
School Board’s current policy and Halton District School Board’s Board By-Laws.
The proposed changes to the Student Trustee Policy were reviewed by a working group consisting of
the Student Trustee Mentor and Student Trustee Mentor alternate, Chair of the Board and Vice-chair
of the Board and recommended further revisions. The Policy, By-law and Governance committee
subsequently reviewed the Student Trustee Policy and approved the final version as attached to this
report.
