Under irradiati<strong>on</strong>, <strong>optical</strong> <strong>fibers</strong> exhibit:<br />

• radiati<strong>on</strong>-<strong>in</strong>duced absorpti<strong>on</strong> (RIA) <strong>and</strong><br />

• radiati<strong>on</strong>-<strong>in</strong>duced lum<strong>in</strong>escence (RIL) or radiolum<strong>in</strong>escence<br />

Both <strong>effects</strong> are dependent <strong>on</strong> the wavelength, the irradiati<strong>on</strong> c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s<br />

<strong>and</strong> the <strong>optical</strong> fiber type.<br />

We <strong>in</strong>vestigated specially designed <strong>optical</strong> <strong>fibers</strong><br />

- with higher OH c<strong>on</strong>tents<br />

- solarizati<strong>on</strong> resistant type<br />

- hydrogen loaded<br />
