At just 10 years old, Miranda is a natural
breakfast any time of the day, and a
kid’s menu too. The Smokey Point location
offers several video games, crane
games, and vending machines to keep
the kids entertained, and now karaoke
for the whole family. Mike, the host,
keeps the atmosphere fun and lively,
and is careful about what he plays in
this family atmosphere.
We enjoyed each and every one
of these young singers. Every one of
them had their own special style, and
honestly, some great singing voices!
S i s t e r s
Miranda, 10,
and Cama, 13,
both sang for
the crowd. Each
of them had a
very strong voice
and a fearlessness
that will
keep shows like
American Idol in
Anya at Buzz Inn
business for a long time to come.
Vanessa, Trinity, and Tinaya
also sang for the swelling crowd, each
of them receiving a loud applause,
and praise from everyone. The song
choices included "Jesus Take The
Wheel", "Rolling In The Deep", "All
Of Me", and "Concrete Angel", just to
name a few.
The adults were mixed in to
the rotation too. Nikki charmed the
group with "Black Horse & A Cherry
Tree", while Anya crooned "Killing Me
Softly". Host Mike sang before Tony
chimed in with a tame AC/DC song.
Then Travis got everybody laughing
with his parody song of "I Love Rock &
Roll" called "I Love Rocky Road". The
kids were singing along and dancing
excitedly around the room!
The Smokey Point Buzz has karaoke
in the bar Tuesdays from 8pm,
Thursdays Ladies Night, also from
8pm, with $3 U-Call it shots, and Friday
and Saturday too. All ages karaoke
runs every Friday in the restaurant
from 8pm-10pm, and moves into the
bar until closing. On Saturdays karaoke
begins in the bar at 9pm.
Did I mention their ginormous
song selection here? You'd be hard
pressed not to find everything you're
looking for at the Smokey Point Buzz
Inn. The sound is clear and the mics are
good, no feedback, or muffled sounds.
Buzz on Inn for an exciting family
evening of karaoke fun, or a rebelrousing
night out on the town, it's
definitely worth pulling off I-5, exit
206. See ya there!
It was the price that was the
stumbling block. Most of the bands
that I work with play three weekends a
month, and average XXXX per night,
and up. I know this is steep for you
to imagine. Now we can be flexible
within reason.
The problem is at the $250 per
night price range, it has to be hard
for you to build any consistency for
regular live music customers. One
week will be good, and the next week,
not so much. It’s hard for a venue to
become a regular hangout if they can’t
guarantee that every weekend will be
consistently good entertainment.

It
would be the equivalent of having Bacardi
one week, and Monarch the next.
Eventually people start to notice that
you no longer pour good alcohol, and
they go somewhere else to get it.

You
would be right in arguing that there
is no guarantee that having Bacardi
is going to pack in good rum drinkers
right away, but over time, with consistency,
people start to expect quality
alcohol at your bar and show up just
for that. The Entertainment business
works the same way.
Kim Archer: AMEN, Dean!!! Club
owners need to understand that “you
get what you pay for” applies to entertainment
and art too! Way to go Dean!
Shel Van Taylor: Most small business
owners think they know everything
and they might be smart enough,
but because they spend too much, and
take too much out of the earnings for
their own salary, and milk the business,
they can’t have the long term
mentality it takes to build a quality
club. Like most people they need it now,
and want the quick fix. It’s the Seattle
way. It hasn’t changed in years. If
small business owners would not take
all the money for houses, cars, boats,
and trips, etc, it could possibly get better.
But in reality I have found there
are ZERO clubs in the Seattle Metro
area that have a following because of
this. It has always been a battle about
the clubs saying the band should have
a following, and the band saying the
club should have a following. Problem
solving for this situation? Be a good
band, have a decent following, and
again, be a really good band. Don’t
take low pay and you can get a decent
wage. The flipside is that clubs probably
wont ever get it. Shel Van Taylor.
Bryan Woolley: Smaller clubs
don’t seem to get that their club has
to be a “place to go” before people will
flock to it and stop depending on the
bands to save the business. Promote.
Look at SeaTac. First thing you see
when you get off the planes is a huge
Tulalip Casino banner. THEY know
what they are doing for sure. Great
club and staff too.
Karaoke: 7 nights/week
Frank sings at the Hula Hula for flavor
The Hula Hula, at the foot of
the Space Needle, has always been
a favorite location for karaoke nuts
traveling to and through town.
DJ Mikey runs a tight show, filled
with all kinds of excitement and surprises
every single night of the week.
His sound system, stage, and
light show rivals even the very best
you’ll find. Mikey always plays to a
packed room of theatrical types, many
of whom make their living on stage.
Needless to say, the level of talent at
the Hula Hula is amazing.
Despite regular changes in the
Management, DJ Mikey seems to be
untouchable as long as he continues
to fill the bar for karaoke.
