Duets Contest at the Float

(Tamara) are working the
crowd at the Floatation
Device every Thursday
and Friday night with their
special style of karaoke. So far, it’s really
been catching on, folks are coming
out for some dinner and drinks, staying
for the karaoke and more drinks.
Attention singers, bring your best
duet partner in and qualify for their
big finale at the end of February where
they will award the winners. Thursday
nights is Duets night at the Float
throughout February! Don’t hesitate!
As of January 27, the Floatation
Device in Gig Harbor still hadn’t had
a winner for 'Sing The Mystery Song'
game. The pot of cash went to $70.00,
and they want to award it to one lucky,
unsuspecting karaoke singer.
By now, the pot is much bigger if
nobody’s still won. All you have to do
to participate is turn in your karaoke
slip from our special Mystery Song
Book, sing your song, and find out if
you’ve chosen the winning selection!
But you’ll never know if you don’t come
out and give it a try. The song you sing
just might be the 'Mystery Song'. If
not, you get one clue. The more you
sing, the more chances you have to
win the cash pot!
If the pot is still there by end of
the evening, the cash rolls over, and
even increases as the bar throws in
more money! The more singers, the
more chances to win! Come out and
sing with us at the Floatation Device,
we’ll remind you why you fell in love
with karaoke so many years ago.

Up & Up
Ex-Pirate sees the
writing on the wall
and comes clean

I was one of those that had music
on my system that I did not purchase,
and did not realize the impact on the
legit host until I read about it here.
I had purchased access to an online
site to get my music, and had virtually
every title and manufacturer at
my disposal. I have found that since
purchasing legal copies of disks that
I have on my hard drive, many disks
and titles are no longer available.
Because of pirating, I am not able
to purchase newly released music as
the manufacturers are unable to purchase
the rights, pay the musicians,
and the rest of the support staff to
make the CDs. I can’t even find a
number of the most popular titles my
singers and I love because inventories
are at the point of being non-existent.
The pirate definitely has the advantage.
Their libraries are massive in
comparison to a legitimate host. That
fact alone supports everything Kurt
Slep, Sound Choice CEO, explained
regarding the impact on his company,
and having the financial means to
provide more, and newer titles. At
some point, no manufacturer will be
able produce karaoke music to stay in
business. In my opinion, had Sound
Choice not started the ball rolling,
eventually all these producers will
meet the same fate; being completely
out of business.
I’m glad my eyes were opened to
see what was happening. I’ve had my
own equipment and music, and filled in
for a friend, who by the way, was one
of the individuals sued. I have been
unemployed since September 2011, and
I’m looking to start my own business. I
want to be able to make a comfortable
living and not have to scrounge around
to find a venue. I certainly don’t want
to compete against those that have
made little to no investment and take
opportunities away from those “willing
to do the right thing”.
I applaud Kurt’s efforts, and the
other producers for the actions they
are taking. I personally believe Sound
Choice has produced the best quality
karaoke tracks, and would prefer to
have all Sound Choice. It would be
great to include the most current
music, but it’s just not possible at this
time. I look forward to the day they
are able to regain the position they
once had and resume production of
the same high quality product they’re
known for.
