Outstanding Care for Our<br />
Youngest Patients<br />
<br />
<strong>Hospital</strong> Services graded the RD&E in the top 20<br />
per cent of UK hospitals and as the best in the<br />
peninsula. The Healthcare Commission gave the<br />
Trust a score of three out of a possible four when<br />
it looked at our Children’s Services against some<br />
of the Department of Health Children’s National<br />
Service Framework Standards. Areas covered<br />

HOSPITAL EDUCATION CENTRE<br />

play therapy, nursing<br />

‘Centre of Excellence’<br />
The First Trimester Screening Clinic at the RD&E<br />
was designated as a ‘Centre of Excellence’ for<br />
Down’s Syndrome Antenatal Screening last autumn.<br />
The award was judged by the National Programme<br />
for Down’s Syndrome Screening Committee which<br />
applauded the screening programme as ‘the<br />
<br />
20<strong>07</strong> standard.’ This screening clinic is a service<br />
<br />
weeks) of their pregnancy who are booked to<br />
give birth at the RD&E or in midwife-led units in<br />
Tiverton, Honiton and Okehampton. This award<br />

from Clinical Chemistry, Pathology, Ultrasonography<br />
and Midwifery.<br />
Teamwork<br />
Teamwork is second nature at the RD&E.<br />
This was recognised when Renal scooped the<br />
Medical Secretarial Team of the Year award for<br />
demonstrating that their vision, teamwork and<br />
enthusiam contributed to improving the service<br />
offered to patients, their consultant, manager<br />
or Trust.<br />
