occasion, a neighbour reportedly approached Rodriguez and said<br />
to her that Nicolas had approached him, gave him a gun and<br />
ordered him to murder her, but he refused.<br />

Audie Lucero: Abducted from hospital<br />
Audie Lucero (19) was found dead in Barangay Capitangan,<br />
Abucay, Bataan on 13 February 2006 after meeting with<br />
policemen and military men <strong>the</strong> day before.<br />
On February 12, Lucero v<strong>is</strong>ited h<strong>is</strong> friend confined at <strong>the</strong><br />
Immaculate Catalina Medical Center in Balanga, Bataan. While<br />
<strong>the</strong>re, seven uniformed policemen introduced <strong>the</strong>mselves to him<br />
as members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Balanga Police Station. They questioned<br />
Lucero about h<strong>is</strong> relationship with <strong>the</strong> friend whom he was<br />
v<strong>is</strong>iting, who had been accused by <strong>the</strong> police and military <strong>of</strong> being<br />
a rebel.<br />
When policemen left, ano<strong>the</strong>r group from Lubao Police Station<br />
arrived, accompanied by military men believed to be connected<br />
with ei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> 24th or 64th Infantry Battalion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Philippine<br />
Army. They also began talking to Lucero. After that he went<br />
m<strong>is</strong>sing and was found dead <strong>the</strong> next day nearby <strong>the</strong> hospital<br />
with fatal gunshot wounds to h<strong>is</strong> back, knee and left hand, and<br />
h<strong>is</strong> body had traces <strong>of</strong> torture marks.<br />
Lucero was a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Youth for National<strong>is</strong>m and<br />
Democracy–Bataan, <strong>the</strong> youth arm <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> political organ<strong>is</strong>ation<br />
Kilusan para sa Pambansang Demokrasya.<br />
In a letter to <strong>the</strong> AHRC dated 15 November 2006, <strong>the</strong> National<br />
Police Comm<strong>is</strong>sion accused Lucero <strong>of</strong> being a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Marx<strong>is</strong>t Lenin<strong>is</strong>t Party <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Philippines</strong> who was involved in an<br />
armed encounter with elements <strong>of</strong> 24th IB. However, <strong>the</strong> letter<br />
did not give any information about <strong>the</strong> investigation <strong>of</strong> Lucero’s<br />
death.<br />

Cathy Alcantara: Shot dead at farmers’ conference<br />
The secretary general <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Bataan chapter <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> national<br />
political organ<strong>is</strong>ation Kilusan para sa Pambansang Demokrasya<br />
(KPD), Cathy Alcantara (44) was killed by unidentified armed men<br />
while participating in a conference <strong>of</strong> farmers from across Luzon<br />
at a resort in Barangay Gabon, Abucay, Bataan, Luzon on 5<br />
December 2005. She was declared dead on arrival at <strong>the</strong> Bataan<br />
Provincial Hospital.<br />
KPD members had reported threats against <strong>the</strong>m and <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
colleagues prior to <strong>the</strong> killing <strong>of</strong> Alcantara, who was among those<br />
threatened. KPD organ<strong>is</strong>ers had on several occasions been<br />
monitored upon by unknown armed men, who had one time also<br />
asked about <strong>the</strong> whereabouts <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir colleagues.<br />
