Match Report
21st October (2nds)
RHUL ULU 1sts baked in the heat
of the ETHOS Imperial College
courts and succumbed to a 3-2 defeat
against Imperial ULU 3rd team.
The boys used the time they had to
warm up to try and assess the conditions
and Adam Robin, the number
1, started off the games. He adapted
quickly and won 3 games to 0.
Tim Scarfe, substituting in at
number 5 in the absence of Julie
Peachey at number 1, played next
and fought hard. Unfortunately he
could not capitalise whilst the advantage
was there and lost 3 games
to 1.
Next on was Jamie Pearce who
looked comfortable from the start
and secured a 3 games to 0 victory
making it 2-1 RHUL. Arran Waterman
had to clinch his game to guarantee
victory but was up against a
good player and flu and lost 3 games
to 0, levelling the score 2-2 with
everything on Hugh Gibson’s game.
However it was not the pressure but
the quality of Imperial’s number 3
that led to the game ending 3 games
to 0 in favour of Imperial.
RHUL Men’s 2nds team took on
University of Surrey 2nds team on
the 21st October. Elliot Rawstron
looked close to winning his first
game but the tide eventually turned
against him, the first game ending
13-15 and with a resulting loss of 3
games to 0. Rory Voake’s match unfortunately
took a similar turn and
despite his best efforts and some
promising skill ended 3 games to 0
to Surrey. Finally Surrey confirmed
the defeat with their player beating
Will Walton 3 games to 0 also.
A disappointing result for the 2nds
leaving them with both thinking
and training to do before their next
match.
RHUL Men’s 1sts team sailed
to victory against the University
of Hertfordshire Mens 1sts. Tim
Scarfe won 3 games to 0 against an
inexperienced Hertfordshire player
starting off the winning run. Arran
Waterman recovered from an
individual loss last week to stay
calm and claim his match 3 games
to 0 also. Hugh Gibson, battling
through illness, played a strong defensive
game again leading to a 3
games to 0 win. Jamie Pearce was
on excellent form, showcasing some
great tactical shots, dropping few
points and gaining another 3 games
to 0 victory. Finally the number 1
Adam Robin secured the full house
with a final 3 games to love victory,
after a small wobble in the second
game going to 12-10. RHUL won
overall by 5 – 0 and they are now
2/2, but skills need to be maintained
for some tougher matches yet to
come.
