Motion Controllers
“Accessing the Analog World”
RTD’s line of motion control modules are ideal for many industrial, automotive and HighRel environments including airborne, marine, process control, and automation.
Applications such as robotics, machine vision, X–Y tables, and pick & place machines rely on these technologies to provide the unique profiles for controlling motor
speed and acceleration to perform their specific task, lower costs, and make more efficient use of motors. This not only requires controlling a motor, but also providing
feedback to ensure that it is positioned correctly. RTD’s DC motor controllers incorporate incremental encoders for relative feedback and synchro/resolvers for absolute
positional feedback.
Synchro/Resolvers
The ERES104ER Synchro/Resolver to digital interface provides two channels
of absolute position data. It provides a direct interface to two synchros, resolvers,
Inductosyn ® scales, or LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transformer)
channels. Both sensor input channels are independently configurable with
jumpers.
Motor Controllers
The ESC629ER and ISC629ER Motor Controllers provide two
independent DC servo motor control interfaces based on the National
Semiconductor LM629 chipset. Controlling the motor trajectory
(velocity, position, and acceleration) makes fast precise motion
control much easier.
On-board solid state Scott-T circuitry provides a precision conversion from
Synchro S1, S2, and S3 to Resolver sine and cosine signals. On-board sockets
are available for optional precision thin film resistor divider networks for
standard 11.8 V or 90 V synchros. Interfacing to LVDT sensors and Inductosyn
scales may require a preamplifier or signal conditioning boards.
The programmable sine wave oscillator outputs a 0–7 Vrms excitation signal
with a programmable frequency of 400 Hz to 1600 Hz, or an external excitation
can be used.
Sensor data is acquired either by polling the channels or by an interrupt-driven
scheme, where an interrupt is generated upon an LSB change on either channel.
Each channel has its own independent jumper-selectable host interrupt.
Features
• 2 independent Synchro/Resolver/Inductosyn/LVDT channels
• Connection to 90 V/11.8 V Synchros with solid state Scott-T
• Programmable sine wave excitation of 400 to 1600 Hz
• Monitor for overspeed or loss of signal or reference
• Built-in test LED indicates error
• 16-bit I/O mapped device with simple interface from software
• 5 V only operation
The ESC629ER and ISC629ER provide two 7-bit plus sign PWM
signals with sign and magnitude outputs and have two 60 V, 10 A
MOSFET H-bridges for direct motor connection. They have a 12 V
supply to directly drive motors. For larger motors, an external power
supply may be connected. Each motor interface has an incremental
encoder input to provide motor position feedback.
The ISC629ER is a galvanically isolated version of the ESC629ER.
Features
• Single-board DC servo motor solution with 2 independent motor interfaces
• Motor trajectory control includes position, velocity, and acceleration using
dedicated motor control chipset
• Two full bridges for direct motor connection
