Autonomous SmartCal
RTD’s latest generation of data acquisition boards meets the ever daunting task of accurately collecting a wide range of analog signals over varying environmental conditions.
RTD Autonomous SmartCal boards automatically remove uncertainties of hardware setup and drift, allowing you to focus on application development and data
analysis. RTD expands on this unique approach of calibration by incorporating a high-speed DSP on our latest boards for calibration and–when it’s desirable–to execute
user-specific applications.
A single command from the host adjusts for all range and gain offsets in less than 300 ms, compensating for all temperature dependent analog errors associated with
analog front ends. The host application does not have to tie up its processing time with calibrating and can therefore perform more important user functions. The Autonomous
SmartCal algorithm is stored in the on-board DSP and is operating system independent. No special host-side software is required.
On-board external Flash and internal DSP memory allow the customer the ability to create user specific applications that harness the TI2812 series DSP functionality and
peripherals. These include but are not limited to Pulse Width Modulators, Timer Outputs, Capture Inputs, and Compare Outputs. The DSP offers a fast, efficient approach
for calibration with the added feature of on-board processing power allowing data pre-processing which in turn saves valuable CPU time.
The Advanced Digital I/O (aDIO ) port provides the user with 18 digital bits configured as eight bit-programmable and 8-bit port-programmable I/O giving you any
combination of inputs and outputs. Match, event, and strobe interrupt modes mean no more wasting valuable processor time polling digital inputs. Interrupts are generated
when the eight bit-programmable digital inputs match a pattern or on any value change event. Bit masking allows selecting any subgroup of the eight bits. The strobe
input latches data into the bit-programmable port and generates an interrupt. The on-board EPLD can be reconfigured to harness the I/O functionality of the DSP including
Pulse Width Modulator, Incremental Encoder, A/D Converter, and the D/A Converter.
Temperature (°C)
At each 10°C temperature increment, and in less than 300 ms, the Autonomous
SmartCal board calibrates its analog section before digitizing a known voltage
input. Each point on the graph shows how the measured value differs from the
known value in Least Significant Bits (LSB). Accuracy is within ±½ LSB.
RTD’s operating system independent, unique Autonomous SmartCal sets a
new industry standard for data acquisition precision and accuracy over a wide
temperature range.
