Impacts the Moon, NASA Finds Water
NASA Ames Research Center engineers selected commercial off-the-shelf products manufactured by RTD Embedded Technologies, Inc. to be used in connection with a
specialized, light measuring instrument aboard the Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS). LCROSS – NASA’s mission to search for water on the moon
– was successfully launched on an Atlas V rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on June 18, 2009 along with its companion mission, the Lunar Reconnaissance
Orbiter. Preliminary data indicate that the mission successfully uncovered water in its October 9, 2009 impact on the permanently shadowed region of the Cabeus crater.
RTD IDAN ® and HiDAN ® Systems Part of NASA WB-57 High Altitude Research
When NASA engineers needed a tough, highly reliable data acquisition
solution for high altitude research, they looked to RTD’s line of
rugged systems and box enclosures. With a shock mount base plate,
transport handle, and MIL SPEC connectors, the HiDANplus
housing was a perfect match. On the interior, the unit is stacked with
RTD’s cutting-edge modules. The entire system is able to operate in
temperatures from – 40 to +85°C, and in conditions involving high
levels of shock and vibration.
RTD’s rugged systems and box enclosures are ideal for a wide
variety of applications. On land, at sea, and in space, these modular
products consistently meet industry’s most rigorous challenges.
