MESSAGE FROM THE OFFICER IN CHARGE
(OIC)
The Surrey RCMP is pleased to provide this annual report that provides insight into our operations and successes in 2010.
The process of compiling the year’s activities provides an opportunity to reflect upon accomplishments, the volume of work
completed, and the task that continues. Surrey Detachment is one of the detachments that comprise the RCMP Lower
Mainland District Regional Police Service. This framework provides an infrastructure and overlay of integrated teams that
support Surrey Detachment in our day to day operations and strategies.
The City of Surrey is a dynamic community experiencing significant growth and development. This dynamic environment
presents challenge and opportunity. The partnership with, and the support we receive from, the City of Surrey and
it’s residents is not only appreciated but is key to moving the community forward in a positive fashion, meeting those
challenges head on and taking advantage of the opportunities that present themselves. The City of Surrey Crime
Reduction Strategy has played a critical role in advancing public safety, recognizing that a collaborative partnership with all
stakeholders is necessary for sustainable and effective solutions and strategy.
The year 2010 will always be identified with the 2010 Vancouver/Whistler Olympics. The Surrey Celebration Site provided
an Olympic experience for Surrey residents and visitors that was a tremendous success. The Celebration Site was a
great example of the partnership that the Detachment has with the City of Surrey. As a theme for this year’s Report to
the Community we have featured not only the Olympic related events that occurred in the City of Surrey but have also
highlighted many of the other large scale community events that the Detachment is involved in year after year.
This report is presented to the Community on behalf of the members, municipal support staff and our volunteers of Surrey
Detachment. The men and women of this Detachment are very proud of their work and efforts in support of public safety,
and in their contribution to making the City of Surrey the dynamic city it has become.
Yours truly,
W. Fraser MacRAE, Assistant Commissioner
Officer in Charge
Surrey Detachment
