Locks C•CURE 800 This section of the Tyco Safety Products Access Control Catalogue covers the locks and ancillary items required for most installations. These are by no means an exhaustive list of the products available, but a selection of the most commonly required parts. More complex designs or requirements may require direct input from our specialist suppliers. Remember, locks used for access control are not usually designed to provide the degree of physical security against gross attack that may be required for insurance purposes. Consideration must also be given to fire and Health and Safety aspects of any installation. This includes for means of escape, access to a secure area for emergencies and also providing sufficient headroom for users. As with all locking systems, the survey must take account of the doors existing fittings and furniture. The door must fit correctly, have adequate hinges and a suitable, preferably double action, door closer. Magnetic Locks Slimline Brackets 637.008.451 Adams Rite L Bracket for outward opening doors. For 261 Aluminium Magnets. Double Magnets Require Two 637.008.452 Z & L Bracket for inward opening doors. For 261 range Aluminium Magnets. Double Magnets require two. These are now the most commonly used access control lock due to their ease of installation and tolerance to door deterioration. These locks are by their design - FAIL SAFE units. This means that they require the power from the access system to provide a holding force. When the power is removed the lock releases. Should there be a total power failure, cable damage etc, the lock fails in a released state. The locks in this section are face to face style. They hold by means of a coil in the lock producing a magnetic field, which attracts an armature plate, which is fitted to the door. The holding force is purely due to the magnetic field which is reliant upon the armature being in direct alignment with the magnetic coil. The armature is fitted with a minor tolerance allowing for distortion etc. It is possible however to attack the door by "springing" the lock to gain entry - this is especially likely on large doors. As the lock requires a face to face fitting it is only suitable for doors that swing in one direction only. It is essential that these locks are not installed on the transom of swing through doors and used as a doorstop as well as the lock. Options available include status monitoring - contacts in the lock detect that the door is closed. There is also a double monitored unit, which monitors the door status contact and the holding force of the lock. This ensures that the lock is providing the level of holding force expected. Should someone try to defeat the lock by applying grease to the face plate(s) or use a plastic layer to create an air-gap between lock and armature then an alarm output can be given. The installation of these locks is quite simple. They do however require there to be sufficient room on the door transom or for brackets to be fitted. On outward opening doors, head height is lost and either L brackets or a transom bar can be used. Be aware of Health & Safety isseus for minimum door opening height. For inward opening doors, Z&L brackets are required. As magnetic locks have no means of providing a mechanical override it is normal practice to supply an emergency break glass box adjacent to the door for means of escape. It is also good practice to provide at least one door to each secure area with a means of overriding the system for emergency entry. This would normally be achieved by a secure keyswitch on the unsecure side of the door. This should be wired into the system in line with the lock power. This is of course a security risk so it must be installed in the correct manner. Locks and Electric Releases C•CURE 800 There are a wide variety of locks and electric releases available for access control. In the main, there are three options available: • Surface or flush fitting • Fail safe or Fail secure • Monitored or unmonitored. Surface or flush is simply the method of installing the lock. This must take account of the aesthetics, security and type of door and frame. Fail-safe is a release that allows access when the power is removed from the operating coil. Fail safe locks therefore draw power from the access system when the door is in its closed state. Fail secure provides a degree of physical security when the lock has the power removed. This could be either in its normal operation or in a total power failure. Subject to the lock design. This type of installation offers a means of mechanical override for escape from the secure side of the door - handle or if acceptable paddle turn. and a mechanical override for entry by key. If this is not available then breakglass and keyswitch may be required as for the magnetic lock. Maximum operational gap (door to frame) 3mm. Jaw strength up to 900kg 618.003.891 A C release to suit Yale 88/89 latch Shear Locks These are magnetic locks designed for fitting into the transom or doorframe. The holding force this time draws up the armature plate allowing a locating pin to be put in place from the lock to the armature. This provides a physical mechanism against the side shear force applied to the door when trying to overcome the lock. These locks can be fitted to swing through doors but the re-alignment of the door(s) is critical. (Quiescent 500mA @ 12Vd.c.). Door Loops Where locks or releases are fitted into the controlled door and require electrical/monitoring connection, a door loop is required to allow a flexible connection to be made from the door frame to the moving leaf.
