These items are wired in series with any fail safe
lock (power required to secure the door) and its
power supply feed and must be connected as
the last item in the circuit before the lock itself.
This means that the lock power can be cut off
to provide a means of escape from the
controlled area. In some circumstances, a
breakglass may be required on the unsecure
side to give access into the secure area for
emergency purposes - lift lobbies etc. The latter
is a security risk and the breakglass and door
should be monitored to generate a door forced
alarm as soon as the glass is broken.
When a door is fitted with access control, using
a lock that does not offer a means of override
from the unsecure side in the event of an
emergency, it is advisable to install a key switch
at one entry point to each secure area. This will
operate in a similar manner to the emergency
break glass detailed above, in that it removes
power from the lock (fail-safe). It is however a
little more secure in that unless it is tampered
with a key is required to operate the override
facility. The door should of course be monitored

This section offers a wide range of devices, which
allow an access-controlled door to be opened in
an authorised manner. Standard methods of
egress mechanical handle etc do not normally
provide a signal to the central control equipment.
A door forced indication would therefore be
generated if monitoring of the access doors were
required. Also if magnetic lock or similar are used,
a safe means of release is required. Listed below
are standard egress buttons, for both low and
high traffic use, contact egress buttons and also
an egress PIR. The last two items offer a "contact"
free load maintenance means of egress. The
egress PIR can be sited and adjusted to provide
a door release signal only in the event a person
moving into the vicinity of the door.
