The next presentation by Juliane Läng from Integer
Research analysed key drivers of the European and
American AdBlue/DEF markets. The key conclusions
of the presentation identified competition as the main
price driver for AdBlue and DEF prices. In terms of
evolution of supply formats, canisters and IBCs were
the most common formats in the early market stages
but there is a shift to pump supply and bulk deliveries.
Finally, the analysis showed that original consumption
estimates for both markets were higher than actual
consumption. However, both markets have been
growing strongly ever since.
Session 2:
AdBlue quality control programs and
the importance of AdBlue quality for
optimal SCR system performance
The second session underlined the importance of
AdBlue quality control. There are no national quality
standards for AdBlue in China yet. Dr. Tao Jianzhong
from Weichai Power analysed the typical problems of
using bad quality AdBlue in SCR systems - the main
problem being urea crystallization and sedimentation.
Another problem is the injection at low temperatures.
Temperatures in many regions in China dropped below
-11˚C. Heating mechanisms are therefore required.
Tim Cheyne from Integer Research shared the European
and US experience concerning AdBlue/DEF quality
control. He underlined the difficulty and importance
of having all the AdBlue suppliers comply with the
required quality standards.
The ensuing panel discussion looked at the quality
control issue in more detail. All participants stated the
need of a nationwide quality standard. Qiao Yingbin
from Sinopec shared the company’s experiences
in developing its own AdBlue standard to ensure
quality products. KLS also described their own quality
standards.
