Singapore's Accession to the Madrid Protocol<br />

Singapore acceded to the Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the<br />

International Registration of Marks (Madrid Protocol) on 31 July 2000. The Madrid Protocol<br />

came into operation in Singapore on 31 October 2000.<br />

Publication of International Registration Designating Singapore for Opposition<br />

Purposes<br />

International registrations designating Singapore under the Madrid Protocol are treated in<br />

the same manner as Singapore national applications, and are therefore published in the<br />

Trade Marks Journal for opposition purposes before protection is granted. They are<br />

published in a separate section of the Trade Marks Journal titled "International<br />

Registrations filed under the Madrid Protocol Published for Opposition Purposes under the<br />

Trade Marks Act (Cap. 332, 1999 Ed.)". Unlike Singapore national applications, they are not<br />

published according to the class of goods or services, but are published according to the<br />

international registration number.<br />

Request for Recording of Changes in the Name and/or Address of the Holder for<br />

International Registrations Designating Singapore<br />

Such requests must be presented to the International Bureau of the World <strong>Intellect</strong>ual<br />

Property Organization (WIPO) using WIPO's prescribed Form MM9(E). Form TM 26 is not<br />

the relevant form to be used.<br />
