ENERGY Solutions
The Archimede solution
Active in photovoltaic systems through its laboratory in Catania, Italian utility company Enel is also a leader in the concentrated solar
thermodynamic sector and has implemented the Archimede power plant. Livio Vido, Director of Enel Engineering and Innovation Division,
explains how Italy is contributing to the future of European energy supply.
Mr. Vido, which R&D projects are to be
expected in solar energy?
Livio Vido: Solar energy is a key renewable
generation technology for
well as developing integrated systems
coupling energy production with storage.
carrying out several R&D projects
in this field, both in CSP (solar ther-
are planning a “low cost” version of
What are specifically the status and
the perspectives of the Archimede
project in Sicily?
research and development in CSP will
be efficiency increase and cost reduction,
working both on plant configuration
and components, in order to facilitate
the exploitation of the technology.
The Archimede power plant is the most advanced project in the world in this new
and promising field of energy generation.
How will Enel make use of the
of HANNOVER MESSE?
HANNOVER MESSE will be an opportunity
to present the status and
perspective of Enel research and Enel
efforts in environmental related topics
and renewables, but also a moment
to collect all the competences
of Italian Industry in order to have a
constructive comparison with other
countries and industrial peers.
