Bull shark (Carcharhinus leucas)<br />

Distribution: Widely distributed in warm temperate to tropic<strong>al</strong> regions.<br />

Habitat: Inshore and estuarine. Mostly taken in coast<strong>al</strong>, estuarine and freshwater fisheries.<br />

<strong>Fi</strong>rst dors<strong>al</strong> fin description<br />

- <strong>Fi</strong>n is light grey to greyish-brown<br />

in color.<br />

- <strong>Fi</strong>n is short, broad and triangular<br />

in shape with a pointed apex.<br />

- Short free rear tip.<br />

- Large, obvious denticles, some<br />

of which look like s<strong>al</strong>t grains.<br />

- Rough texture to the touch,<br />

like sandpaper<br />

Similar species: Lemon shark first dors<strong>al</strong> fins are similar shape, but are light brown to golden brown<br />

in color. Sandbar shark first dors<strong>al</strong> fins have similar-sized, s<strong>al</strong>t-grain like denticles, but the fin apex is<br />

rounded. Tiger dors<strong>al</strong> fins are similar in shape and color, but have a more rounded apex and longer<br />

free rear tip.<br />
