Smooth hammerhead shark (Sphyrna zygaena)<br />

Distribution: Worldwide, in temperate regions.<br />

Habitat: Typic<strong>al</strong>ly Inshore, but can be found offshore. Mostly taken in coast<strong>al</strong> and pelagic fisheries.<br />

Pector<strong>al</strong> fin description<br />

The dors<strong>al</strong> surface is light<br />

brown or greyish-brown in<br />

color with a dull, smooth<br />

texture. The fin is gener<strong>al</strong>ly<br />

short and broad, slightly<br />

convex from leading edge to<br />

trailing edge and rounded at<br />

the apex. The ventr<strong>al</strong> surface<br />

lacks distinct markings.<br />

Similar Species: Sc<strong>al</strong>loped hammerhead pector<strong>al</strong> fins are similar in shape and color, but typic<strong>al</strong>ly have a<br />

dark patch at the apex on the ventr<strong>al</strong> surface that is absent from the pector<strong>al</strong> fin of the smooth hammerhead.<br />
