Sandbar shark (Carcharhinus plumbeus)<br />

Distribution: Widely distributed in warm temperate to tropic<strong>al</strong> regions.<br />

Habitat: Inshore. Mostly taken in coast<strong>al</strong> and estuarine fisheries.<br />

Pector<strong>al</strong> fin description<br />

The dors<strong>al</strong> surface is light brown<br />

or greyish-brown with a rough<br />

texture and large, visu<strong>al</strong>ly obvious<br />

denticles, some of which resemble<br />

s<strong>al</strong>t grains. Markings on the ventr<strong>al</strong><br />

surface are absent or consist of a<br />

faint dusky area at the apex and<br />

<strong>al</strong>ong the trailing edge. Free rear<br />

tip is short and narrow at the apex.<br />

Similar species: Caribbean reef, bull, dusky and silky pector<strong>al</strong><br />

fins are similar in color and shape but have more obvious<br />

dusky markings on the ventr<strong>al</strong> surface, especi<strong>al</strong>ly at the apex.<br />
