Events to look forward to: - The Province Golden Jubilee football tournament to be held at Loyola School, Jamshedpur, on 6, 7 & 8 of this month. - The New Priests’ Night at Loyola School, Jamshedpur, on 12 August 2004 to felicitate the new Priests of the Province and the Diocese: Frs Sushil Balmuchu, Sunny Jacob, Romanus Kerketta, Polidor Kujur and Junas Purty. - The thanksgiving Jubilee Mass on 7 September 2004 at Loyola School, Jamshedpur: 60 years in the Society : Fr Robert Sequeira Fr Richard Kenna 25 years in the Priesthood : Fr Thomas Palakuzhy Fr Gilbert D’Souza Fr Cyprian Lobo NEWS FROM HOUSES Chandankiyari The month of July was memorable for all of us. Three Holy Cross Sisters have started residing in Chandankiyari. We had the blessing of our new School building-cum-Sisters‟ Residence on 10 July. Fr Woolsie blessed it and celebrated Mass with KC and Sunny. There were 86 Religious from Dhanbad, Bokaro and Hazaribag. The inauguration of the School was on 12 July. Dr Kalyan Sen, the Director of CMRI-CFRI, was the Chief Guest. Our Provincial, Fr James Kalapura, Mrs Anjali Devi Singh Deo, a well known social activist, Fr Zeff of St Xavier‟s Bokaro, Fr Woolsie, Fr Pius, Sr Keerti and other Principals and distinguished people were present on this occasion. Present also were a
good number of local people. On that day 27 students of the Spoken English course received their certificates from the Chief Guest. They sang the welcome song too. Fr KC was the happiest person on that day. Congratulations to him for his tireless work. Sunny was often on the move giving recollections and orientation programmes for the religious, youth and students in various places like Bhojudih, Dhanbad, Mugma, Ramgarh and Carmel Convent, Digwadih, while KC went to Nirmala Convent, Govindpur to hear confessions. - Sunny Jacob DNS, Digwadih The School reopened with the usual schedule. Early monsoons had brought in much needed relief from the heat. The humid and sultry weather continues due to inadequate rainfall. Emile, the man for all the seasons, was given an affectionate farewell by the faculty and the students. The void created by Emile‟s absence will be felt during the school functions and community prayers. We have truly lost our voice! Amal has taken up responsibility as the community Choirmaster. If all can‟t sing a hymn, we recite! "Never mind" as the Cardinal says! Woolsie is back emotionally and physically charged after his well deserved home visit and the Retreat. Prayers are requested for Vijay‟s eldest sister who went to her heavenly abode near Hazaribag. He requests your prayers for his other sister who is also ailing with many complications Deanery Mahila Sangh gathered in full strength in the campus under the leadership of PP Stan. Speakers Emile and Edward Kongari stressed on Faith formation in families and roused their enthusiasm to work for the Lord. George Thana has become a fitness freak by his daily walks. Come rain or sun George goes his way. He is an inspiration to the FRI colony elders when he passes by with his joggers shoes. Fr Herman Castellino of JEA fame, gave an interesting two-day workshop to our teachers on Ignatian Pedagogy. His lucid style and practical examples were appreciated by the faculty. When is the follow up Herman? Administrator Panneer was busy with the auditors and putting the accounts in order. He still has not got his normal health back. House minister Amal is nursing him back to health. Pius is having painful sessions with his dentist for RCT and other complications. Doctors have told him that the real cause of his tooth decay is his old age . - Pius Fernandes
