Mr B Muthuraman, Managing Director, Tata Steel, inaugurated the "Millennium Storey" on 2
May 2002. In his brief speech, Mr Muthuraman urged the children to have a clear vision of the
future. Rector Vatta presented the Chief Guest a silver plaque as a memento. The Junior School
is now "complete" - can accommodate all the classes and sections which used to be held in
makeshift rooms.
During the summer vacation, the House looked deserted with members of the Community
disappearing for a much-needed break. Felix and Eddie made their retreat in the House itself. Br
Maxi looked after the various repair work and painting of the School and took care of the guests.
Peter Martin, our new Regent, and Sebastian, our Vice-Principal, were given a warm welcome
by the Community.
Our Parish Priest, Bernard Surin, celebrated St Anthony's Feast Day Mass on 13 June at
Carmel. Heavy rain lashed during the procession and dampened the spirit somewhat.
Our ex-PP, Stan Kujur, made a brief halt, en route to Dhanbad, to meet his old parishioners. He
is happy that our new PP Bernard is carrying on the traditions and managing the Parish well.
Is Swami, our Socius, on a long distant journey? It sounds difficult to believe, as goes out of
station rarely. During this summer vacation he went for a double celebration. First for his eldest
brother's Golden Wedding Anniversary in Coimbatore plus his own Golden Jubilee in the
Society and secondly to Madurai Province to be with his 1952 novitiate companions at Dhyana
Ashram, Chennai. The 13 Jubilarians spent two days together recollecting and recalling their
nostalgic 50 years in the Society and how God was walking with them every moment and
sometimes even carrying them in all these years. Loyola College, Chennai hosted a sumptuous
dinner in honour of them.
After returning to the Province, Swami taught Santhali to the pre-Novices before they entered
the Novitiate on 30 June. As the proof of the pudding is in the eating, Swami and his disciples
went to Jisu Jaher, Dalbhumgarh, a Santhali village, to celebrate Mass and to practice Santhali
with the villagers. The Pilgrims returned in the evening by the over-crowded and late running
locals. Swami has quiet a satisfaction that his Santhali is still not outdated.
All the 151 ICSE boys sailed through the Board exams and 14 failed out of the 212 who
appeared in ISC 2002.
Loyola conducted the Frank Anthony Memorial Inter-School Debate on 29 April on behalf of the
Council. Selected Schools from Orissa and Jharkhand participated. Little Flower School took
away the trophy and Loyola came a close 2nd.
