1975
Bucket Brigade develops
a tutoring program
to help in the early
recognition and
remediation of learning
problems.
1976-83
The JLM’s efforts on behalf of child abuse
lead to developing an actual crisis
nursery, now known as the Greater
Minneapolis Crisis Nursery. It opened
on May 1, 1983, as a safe shelter where
parents could bring their children during
times of stress.
1984-90
Teen Outreach (a national replication
project) is a collaboration with the
Minneapolis Public Schools and the
Sheltering Arms Foundation to increase
the number of high school graduates.
In 1984, 20 students participate; by
1989-90, more than 200 teens were
involved. It is transitioned to Family and
Children’s Services.

1981-87
In coalition with the
Minneapolis Park and
Recreation Board and the
Minnesota State Historical
Society, the JLM undertakes
the renovation of the John H.
Stevens House. Volunteers
put in 20,000 hours to ensure
it opens on time for the grand
opening on July 28, 1985.
1984-91
Too Early Pregnancy works to
provide advocacy and teenage
pregnancy prevention. In
1988, a grant from the Ronald
McDonald Children’s Charities
allows for the production of a
video, “Too Far, Too Fast.”
1984-89
First Festival of Trees is held at
City Center, featuring 35 uniquely
decorated trees donated by
businesses and 37 entertainment
specials. The event becomes an
annual fundraiser.
1987
Celebrated Seasons, the
second JLM cookbook, is
produced as a fundraiser.
