Spencerian is an American
style of penmanship. The lower
case has only a few stressed
strokes in a word. In copperplate,
every down stroke is
thickened by applying pressure
to the pen. Spencerian Script can be written
with more speed than copperplate. Spencerian
originated in Ohio in the 1860s with Platt Roger
Spencer. The DVD’s 15 chapters include instruction
and demonstration of all the letters of the
alphabet, hand positions and correct posture,
practice exercises, writing angles and letter sizes,
oblique pen holders & pen points, practical tips
for envelopes and pen flourishes.

DVD $34.95. In this DVD, Bill Lilly teaches Engrosser's
Script with instruction on lowercase letters and
capitals, numbers and punctuation marks. Each letter
is demonstrated and analyzed. Flourished script is also
shown. Calligraphers know Engrosser's Script as Copperplate.
It is also referred to as English Roundhand or
Engraver's Script. Master penman Lilly graduated from
the famous Zanerian School of Penmanship.

Whether you want to learn how to make these flourished
designs or you want to just admire these works
of penmanship, these books are great resources. This
drawing with pen strokes is often called Off-Hand
Flourishing.
