Pointed Pen Ron Tate Instructional DVDs Learn with the help of professional calligrapher, Ron Tate. Each DVD is a step-by-step tutorial and presents the history, tools and techniques of the script. DVD39. Copperplate with Ron Tate. 2009. 1 hour, 45 minutes. DVD $29.95 Calligraphers call this beautiful hand Copperpate or English Roundhand. Penmen call it Engrosser's Script. The DVD’s 21 chapters include correct posture and desk positioning, writing angles and letter sizes, step-by step instruction for all lower-case and capital letter forms, numbers, connecting letters, and oblique pen holders and pen points DVD40. Spencerian with Ron Tate. 2009. 1 hour, 27 minutes. DVD $29.95 Spencerian is an American style of penmanship. The lower case has only a few stressed strokes in a word. In copperplate, every down stroke is thickened by applying pressure to the pen. Spencerian Script can be written with more speed than copperplate. Spencerian originated in Ohio in the 1860s with Platt Roger Spencer. The DVD’s 15 chapters include instruction and demonstration of all the letters of the alphabet, hand positions and correct posture, practice exercises, writing angles and letter sizes, oblique pen holders & pen points, practical tips for envelopes and pen flourishes. Bill Lilly DVD42. Introduction to Engrosser's Script. DVD $34.95. In this DVD, Bill Lilly teaches Engrosser's Script with instruction on lowercase letters and capitals, numbers and punctuation marks. Each letter is demonstrated and analyzed. Flourished script is also shown. Calligraphers know Engrosser's Script as Copperplate. It is also referred to as English Roundhand or Engraver's Script. Master penman Lilly graduated from the famous Zanerian School of Penmanship. B3345. Real Pen Work: Self-instruction Manual in Penmanship 1881. Knowles & Maxim. (reprint 2003). 64pp, with CD. 11"x8.5". Paper $24.95 Has instruction for Spencerian Script and offhand flourished birds. The strokes/letters used for instruction are larger than in most books. Offhand gallery of various birds, eagle, swan, lion, hounds, stags, horses and heads. Includes CD of all the images in PDF, JPEG and TIF formats. B3116. The Technique of Copperplate Calligraphy by Gordon Turner. 1987. 42pp. 8.25"x11". Paper $5.95 Written in copperplate script, this is a good beginner’s book, especially for classes with a limited budget. For more thorough instruction purchase, B1109. Mastering Copperplate Calligraphy by Eleanor Winters. Flourishing Whether you want to learn how to make these flourished designs or you want to just admire these works of penmanship, these books are great resources. This drawing with pen strokes is often called Off-Hand Flourishing. B3052. Bird and Design Flourishing: At Home with Artistic Penmanship Book Five. 2001. 32pp. 8.5"x5.5". Paper $5.95 Provides instruction and examples from simple to complex of decorative flourishes, banners, feathers, an assortment of birds. Highly recommeded by Pat Blair. (1741). 212pp. 9"x13.75". Paper $21.95 This amazing book has 212 pages filled with copperplate/engrossers script by English master penmen of the 1700’s, all engraved by Bickham. There is a good variety of styles and sizes and a cornucopia of non-pictorial flourishing. A great source book. B3209. RS102. Designing Faces, Figures, Florals and More: Contemporary Ornate Pictorial Calligraphy by Linda Schneider. 2009. 85pp. 8.5"x11". Paper $24.95. A great instructional workbook for pointed pen flourishing. You learn the basics of flourishing and how to apply those techniques to ornament your work. Linda’s flourish style is unique. Instead of feathers and birds, she uses the flourish strokes to create delightful flowers, ladies, dogs & the Eiffel Tower. Linda has also created rubberstamps of some of her delightful designs. Use the stamps on cards, collage, letters, envelopes and more. Linda’s flourished creations are now available as rubber stamps. Pliers for adjusting oblique holders S507. Small Bent Needle Nose Pliers. Michael Sull selected these small pliers which are ideal for adjusting the flange on an oblique holder. Use them to adjust the curve of the flange for the nib you are using, to crimp the two sheets of metal in the curve a bit tighter if necessary, and to adjust the flat part of the flange to reduce the angle of the pen to the paper.
