COSC 1263 - Computer Disaster Recovery 2/2 (3)<br />

Prerequisites: COSC 1152 and COSC 1513. This course provides<br />

an introduction to disaster recovery focusing on planning the<br />

team, planning for the disaster and practicing the plan. Topics<br />

include developing a recovery strategy, communicating with<br />

personnel and customers, recalling backups, preparing for the<br />

recovery, and testing the plans.<br />

COSC 1341 - PowerPoint 1/0 (1)<br />

Prerequisites: COSC 1152 or COSC 1513 or consent of instructor.<br />

This is an introductory course to develop skills in preparing<br />

and using the graphics and presentation software PowerPoint.<br />

Students will learn how to include text, bullets, and charts in<br />

their PowerPoint presentations.<br />

COSC 1352 - Word 2/0 (2)<br />

Prerequisites: COSC 1152 or COSC 1513 or consent of instructor.<br />

This course is an introduction to Microsoft Word. Instruction includes<br />

entering, editing, enhancing, and revising text material.<br />

COSC 1362 - Access 2/0 (2)<br />

Prerequisites: COSC 1152 or COSC 1513 or consent of instructor.<br />

This course is an introduction to the database management<br />

software Access. Topics include designing and creating databases,<br />

maintaining databases, creating queries, reports, forms, and<br />

menus in addition to working with multiple files and setting up<br />

relationships.<br />

COSC 1372 - Excel 2/0 (2)<br />

Prerequisites: COSC 1152 or COSC 1513 or consent of instructor.<br />

This is an introductory course to develop skills in creating,<br />

revising, and printing spreadsheets, charts, and graphs.<br />

COSC 1382 - Microsoft Office Suite Integration 2/0 (2)<br />

Prerequisites: COSC 1341, COSC 1352, COSC 1362, and<br />

COSC 1372. A capstone course in the integration of Microsoft<br />

Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).<br />

COSC 1392 - Microsoft Outlook 2/0 (2)<br />

Prerequisite: COSC 1152 or COSC 1513; and COSC 1172. In<br />

this introduction to Microsoft Outlook, students will learn to<br />

send and receive e-mail, manage contacts, plan tasks, schedule<br />

the Calendar, manage their Inbox, integrate Outlook with other<br />

applications and the Internet, create custom Outlook forms and<br />

modify the Outlook interface. Additional topics may include<br />

Outlook with Microsoft Exchange Server, Business Contact<br />

Manager and synchronizing Outlook with PDAs.<br />

COSC 1413 - Introduction to Structured<br />

Programming 2/2 (3)<br />

Prerequisite: COSC 1513. The student will use the concepts of<br />

structured programming and top-down design to create the<br />

computer logic required to solve business-related applications. The<br />

computer language Visual Basic will be used to demonstrate the<br />

structured logic in a program form. Both flow charts and pseudocode<br />

will be used to define the written form of the logic.<br />

COSC 1513 - Introduction to Information<br />

Processing 2/2 (3)<br />

This course provides an introduction to the meaning and function<br />

of hardware, software, data procedures, and personnel in<br />

a business computer system. Basic systems analysis and design<br />

techniques, file processing and data base concepts, plus the entering<br />

and executing of programs will be presented. The hands-on<br />

use of business software packages for Windows, word processing,<br />

spreadsheets, Internet access, presentation graphics, and database<br />

will be included. IAI: BUS 902 Business.<br />

COSC 2022 - System Implementation 2/0 (2)<br />

Prerequisites: COSC 2262, COSC 2362 and COSC 2323. A<br />

continuation of COSC 2323 and COSC 2362. Students will<br />

implement a small information system using the Access database<br />

program. Students will design and implement menus, forms,<br />

reports, and programs.<br />

COSC 2033 - Advanced Word 2/2 (3)<br />

Prerequisites: COSC 1513 (can be taken concurrently) and COSC<br />

1023 with a grade of C or better. This capstone document production<br />

course for administrative and office assistant training places<br />

heavy emphasis on using technology to produce various desktop<br />

publishing documents.<br />

COSC 2132 - Managing LANs 2/0 (2)<br />

(Also available as computer-based training in a self-study format.)<br />

Prerequisite: COSC 1242 or consent of instructor. This course<br />

is an introduction to networking systems. Topics include writing<br />

schemes, network operating systems, protocols, controlling<br />

file access, passwords, security, login scripts, network printing,<br />

trouble shooting, automatic network management tasks, and<br />

monitoring network performance.<br />

COSC 2143 - C Programming 2/2 (3)<br />

(Available as computer-based training in a self-study format.)<br />

Prerequisite: COSC 1413. Before enrollment, knowledge of<br />

structured programming techniques or proficiency in another<br />

programming language is recommended. The student will learn<br />

the major components of the C programming language by completing<br />

several programs.<br />

COSC 2152 - Special Topics in<br />

Computer Networks 2/0 (2)<br />

(Available as computer-based training in a self-study format.)<br />

Prerequisite: COSC 2132 or consent of instructor. Computerbased<br />

training in network operating systems. This course is<br />

designed to provide training leading to vendor certification in<br />

network operating systems, such as Novell CNE and Microsoft<br />

MCSE.<br />

COSC 2172 - World Wide Web Site<br />

Design & Management 2/0 (2)<br />

Prerequisite: COSC 1172 or consent of instructor. This course is<br />

an introduction to publishing on the World Wide Web. Topics<br />

include designing a web page; importing text, images and other<br />

elements into the web page; creating tables; links to images and<br />

image maps; and fill-in forms that transfer data. Other topics<br />

include employing multimedia technologies, implementing<br />

security, and maintaining the site.<br />

COSC 2183 - Intro to ASP.NET & Web Security 2/2 (3)<br />

Prerequisites: COSC 2172 and COSC 2262. This course is designed<br />

for students to learn about designing basic interactive web<br />

pages with e-commerce or data management content. Students<br />

will learn to create ASP.NET Web applications that run under<br />

Web browsers such as Internet Explorer, Netscape and Mozilla<br />

Firefox. It is intended for those with basic knowledge of computers,<br />

networks and the Internet, having a fundamental understand-<br />
