XRAY 1356 - Clinical V 0/18 (6)<br />
Prerequisites: XRAY 1346, XRAY 2114 and concurrent enrollment<br />
in XRAY 2125. Students will continue to participate in<br />
programmed clinical experiences within the radiology departments<br />
of area hospitals dealing with difficult exams, surgery and<br />
special procedures. Students will be exposed to the diagnostic<br />
tools of computer tomography, nuclear medicine, radiation<br />
therapy, ultrasound and MRI.<br />
XRAY 2114 - Advanced Radiographic<br />
Technology I 4/0 (4)<br />
Prerequisites: XRAY 1333, XRAY 1042, XRAY 2311 and<br />
concurrent enrollment in XRAY 1346. The student will be<br />
acquainted with the complex, specialized, and highly technical<br />
field of advanced radiologic technology. The student will gain a<br />
better understanding of the principles of his/her previous classroom<br />
and clinical studies as they affect: advanced techniques<br />
and positioning, special procedures, radiologic departmental<br />
administration and the medical-legal aspects of working in a<br />
department of radiology. The student also will have a complete<br />
review of the fundamentals of X-ray physics and will be exposed<br />
to new regulations in radiation safety and advanced techniques<br />
governing radiation protection.<br />
XRAY 2125 - Advanced Radiographic<br />
Technology II 5/0 (5)<br />
Prerequisites: XRAY 1346, XRAY 2114, and concurrent enrollment<br />
in XRAY 1356. This course is designed to give the student<br />
a comprehensive review of radiography. The student will cover<br />
a vast amount of material – some new, but most in the form of<br />
review with emphasis in the areas most needed.<br />
XRAY 2312 - Survey of Radiographic Pathology 2/0 (2)<br />
Prerequisites: BIOL 2644, BIOL 2654, XRAY 1326, XRAY<br />
1053 and concurrent enrollment in XRAY 1333. This course<br />
will acquaint the student with certain changes that occur in the<br />
disease process and with injury and their applications to radiography.<br />
An understanding of these should enable the student to:<br />
handle seriously injured or ill patients more intelligently, produce<br />
more informative radiographs, be a more competent member of<br />
the health care team, obtain a greater satisfaction from his/her<br />
work, and be able to recognize basic radiographic pathology on<br />
a finished radiograph.<br />

The student will learn to recognize word parts and phonetic configurations,<br />
enabling him/her to recognize written words already<br />
in the spoken vocabulary and to decipher words not encountered<br />
previously. This course is designed to prepare students for college-level<br />

READ 0921 - Spelling<br />

The student will work with general spelling principles especially<br />
homophones, contractions, and commonly misspelled words. This<br />
course is designed to prepare students for college-level coursework.<br />

READ 0931 - Vocabulary (Based on demand) (1)<br />
The student will study word meanings through use of context<br />
clues and structural analysis. Both sight vocabulary and dictionary<br />
skills will be emphasized. Special vocabulary drills are<br />
available for medical and administrative assistant students. This<br />
course is designed to prepare students for college-level coursework.<br />

READ 0941 - Comprehension I (Based on demand) (1)<br />
Students will focus on recognizing the main idea. Students will<br />
practice discerning fact from opinion and general statements<br />
from specific statements. This course is designed to prepare students<br />
for college-level coursework. See Page 118 under “<strong>Course</strong> numbering<br />
system.”<br />
READ 0951 - Comprehension II (Based on demand) (1)<br />
Prerequisite: READ 0941 or consent of instructor. Practical application<br />
of reading skills will be emphasized in the class. This<br />
course is designed to prepare students for college-level coursework.<br />

READ 0961 - Effective Reading (Based on demand) (1)<br />
The student will apply basic reading skills in textbook reading.<br />
Skills will be applied to increase reading rate and comprehension.<br />
This course is designed to prepare students for college-level coursework.<br />

READ 0984 - Preparation for <strong>College</strong> Reading I (4)<br />
Prerequisite: Appropriate reading assessment score. The student<br />
will work with word attack techniques, briefly reviewing<br />
consonant and vowel sounds. General spelling principles and<br />
vocabulary development using prefixes, suffixes, combining forms<br />
and context clues are important aspects of the course. Individual<br />
learning styles will be identified and reinforced. Study skills,<br />
including time management, note taking, study habits and testtaking<br />
techniques will be emphasized. This course is designed to<br />
prepare students for college-level coursework. See Page 118 under<br />

READ 0994 - Preparation for <strong>College</strong> Reading II (4)<br />
Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in READ 0984 or appropriate<br />
reading assessment score. The student will identify the subject<br />
matter, recognize the main idea, discern fact from opinion, locate<br />
supporting details, and recognize general statements from specific<br />
statements. Individual learning styles and study skills introduced in<br />
READ 0984 will be reviewed and expanded. Use of the dictionary,<br />
thesaurus, and other reference sources will be emphasized, as well<br />
as using the Learning Resource Center and on-line resources. This<br />
course is designed to prepare students for college-level coursework. See<br />
Page 118 under “<strong>Course</strong> numbering system.”<br />
READ 1484 - Introduction to <strong>College</strong> Reading (4)<br />
Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in READ 0994 or appropriate<br />
reading assessment score. The student will develop strategies for<br />
effective comprehension of passages from essays to text chapters<br />
to books. Content will comprise a variety of reading formats,<br />
including social science, science, business, and technical. Emphasis<br />
will be on improving study skills, reading rate, flexibility<br />
and critical reading skills. Grades in this course will be calculated<br />
into student grade point averages.<br />
