INDUSTRY BRIEFS CHRISTIE’S DIGITAL CINEMA PROJECTORS, including the new generation Solaria Series 4K-ready DLP Cinema projectors, screened a record number of digital titles at the 35th Toronto International Film Festival in September. Celebrating 10 years as projection sponsor for the festival, Christie has played a key role in the festival’s growing use of digital projection technology to accurately reflect the innovative works of a new generation of filmmakers. Since its founding in 1976, TIFF has gained a global reputation as a launching pad for the best international, Hollywood and Canadian cinema. Its exceptional record for nurturing major new talent has helped it gain worldwide acclaim as the most important film festival after Cannes. From a modest audience of 35,000 in its first year, attendance has grown to more than 500,000, with a program this year that includes 1,285 screenings of 336 titles from 64 countries around the world. Nearly half of all titles this year will be screened digitally. “It’s an honor to be part of the outstanding tradition of innovation and creative vision that is TIFF,” said Gerry Remers, president and chief operating officer, Christie Digital Systems Canada, Inc. “As the recognized leader in digital cinema projection technology, Christie is pleased to provide our expertise and superior projection solutions to help TIFF introduce brilliant and memorable films to a global audience.” KIM LUECK HAS BEEN NAMED CHIEF INFORMATION TECH- NOLOGY OFFICER FOR MAR- CUS THEATRES. In her new role, she will assume responsibility for the division’s technology strategy and implementation. Lueck joined Marcus Theatres in 1997 as IT manager, and later served as IT director for the Baymont and KFC divisions. In 1999, she received the Marcus Theatres “Spotlight on Excellence” award for her leadership role in implementing the division’s first phone ticketing sales system, print-at-home ticketing and data warehouse capabilities. Lueck played a key role in the overnight technology conversions for the company’s acquisitions of Cinema Entertainment Corporation in 2007 and the Douglas Theatre Company in 2008. Lueck has also chaired the Advisory Board of Radiant Systems, an entertainment industry technology provider, for the past six years. She participates on several NATO committees and volunteers with organizations including Variety, COA Youth & Family Centers, the Multiple Scoliosis Society, The Gathering, United Performing Arts Fund (UPAF) and the United Way. She also serves on the United Way Emerging Leaders Council. MICHAEL KOHLER HAS BEEN NAMED SENIOR COUNSEL FOR THE MARCUS CORPORATION. In his new role, Kohler will represent the company’s theater and hotel divisions before federal and state administrative agencies throughout the country in all areas of employment law. Kohler will also be responsible for counseling and training the company’s managers and human resource directors on labor and employment law related issues, assist in union negotiations and represent the company in labor arbitrations. Prior to joining The Marcus Corporation, Kohler was an associate at Foley & Lardner, LLP in Milwaukee. Kohler received a dual bachelor’s degree in business administration and history from Marquette University in 1996 and obtained his law degree from the University of Illinois in 2000. In addition to his work at The Marcus Corporation, he teaches as an adjunct professor at Marquette University’s College of Business and frequently provides lectures on employment and labor law topics to classes and professional groups. He also serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Great Lakes Hemophilia Foundation as well as the Association of Corporate Counsel – Wisconsin Chapter. THE SALAH M. HASSANEIN VARIETY BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF QUEENS WILL HONOR LINDA DITRINCO, Executive Vice President/General Sales Manager of Focus Features, as the recipient of its 59th Annual Humanitarian Award. Proceeds from this annual fundraiser will benefit the Salah M. Hassanein Variety Boys and Girls Club of Queens, a recreational and educational facility located in Astoria, Queens. As Executive Vice President/ General Sales Manager of Focus Features, Linda has planned and managed the distribution of such Academy Award-winning films as Lost in Translation, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Motorcycle Diaries, Atonement, The Pianist, The Constant Gardener, Milk, and Brokeback Mountain, which won three Oscars including Best Director for Ang Lee.
