EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT SERVICES<br />

<strong>Kettering</strong> <strong>University</strong> Library<br />

Located on the second floor of the Academic Building, the Library has a collection of over 130,000 items of print and non-print materials,<br />

with 1,900 periodical titles. The Library Mission is ... "In support of <strong>Kettering</strong> <strong>University</strong>'s mission, goals, and curriculum, the Library<br />

serves the community by providing resources and services to facilitate quality teaching, learning, and research through information access".<br />

Library <strong>Catalog</strong><br />

<strong>Kettering</strong> <strong>University</strong> Library is a member of PALnet, an academic resource sharing library network. Searches in the PALnet catalog reveal the<br />

holdings of <strong>Kettering</strong> <strong>University</strong> Library and cooperative members. PALnet Members include two other local colleges, Mott Community<br />

Collection<br />

Materials purchased for the Library collection are to support the curriculum of <strong>Kettering</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Leisure reading material, fiction,<br />

newspapers and magazines are also available. Special attention has been given to include the publications of American Society of Mechanical<br />

Engineers (ASME), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), Society of Manufacturing<br />

Engineers (SME), and proceedings for many curriculum-related societies. Access and storage for student theses is another important part of<br />

the collection.<br />

Hours/Loan Information<br />

The library is open seven days a week, a total of 83.25 hours, with reference assistance available most of those hours. During final exam<br />

week, the library hours are extended. Changes in hours are posted on the sign just outside the library entrance. Some helpful library telephone<br />

While the library is open to the public for use during all of its hours of operation, circulation of library materials is restricted to <strong>Kettering</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong> students, faculty, staff, alumni, FOLA members, and sponsoring company employees. Students, faculty and staff may renew<br />

materials twice, either by phone or in person. The standard loan period for <strong>Kettering</strong> <strong>University</strong> Library materials is 30 days. Photo ID cards<br />

serve as library cards and must be presented when checking out materials.<br />

Audio and video equipment is available for use, as well as photocopiers, fax machine, color printer and scanner. A drop box is located near<br />

the library entrance for use when the Library is closed.<br />

Interlibrary Loan<br />

Materials not owned by the <strong>Kettering</strong> Library can usually be obtained through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). This service is available to students,<br />

faculty and staff at no charge. In addition to local reciprocal agreements, the Library uses OCLC WorldCat (a world-wide database of library<br />

holdings) to locate requested material.<br />

For our students, faculty and staff, other reciprocal agreements are available among the Flint area academic libraries. Please contact the<br />

Reference Librarian or ILL Technician for assistance with your request.<br />

Electronic Indexes<br />

The Library subscribes to various online databases which index journal and newspaper articles, conference proceedings, etc. Campus-wide<br />

and remote access is available at www.kettering.edu/library. Currently, 27 FirstSearch databases and InfoTrac databases provide indexing<br />

(citations, abstracts and some full-text articles) to thousands of publications. Reference resources within these databases can provide<br />

students with information about potential co-op partners. These subscription databases are available through the library menu and can be<br />

reached through Web access 24 hours a day. Contact the Library if you need assistance. Public access computers are available in the<br />

Library.<br />

Other online databases to which the Library subscribes include: Engineering Index (Compendex), ENGnetBASE (engineering handbooks),<br />

INSPEC (an electrical engineering, physics and computing database), MathSciNet, SAE Digital Library, Science Citation Index Expanded,<br />

and ScienceDirect. All provide citations and abstracts to literature in the areas of science and technology.<br />

Additional online resources include ProQuest ABI/Inform Global, eBooks from netLibrary, and a link to <strong>Kettering</strong>'s Full Text Electronic<br />

Journal Holdings (over 16,000 titles).
