Middle East Electricity and Water Conference and
Exhibition
HE Dr.Mohammed Bin Saleh Al Sada
Minister of Energy and Industry inaugurated
the Middle East Electricity
and Water Conference and Exhibition held in
conjunction with the Middle East Electricity
and Water World Conference (POWER-GEN
Middle East), one of the most prestigious specialized
events held in Qatar, in which Qatar
General Electricity and Water Corporation
“KAHRAMAA” participated as a partner and a
major sponsor.
Giving the inaugural speech, HE the minister
was followed by other speakers including
H.E. Eng. Essa Bin Hilal Al-Kuwari, President
of KAHRAMAA and Mr. Fahad Hamad Al-Mohannadi
the General Manager of Qatar Electricity
& Water Company (QEWC), who gave an
account of the latest developments in Qatar’s
emerging industrial base, and Mr. Glenn.Ensor
the Director of International Events at PennWell
Corporation of the UK. HE the minister also inaugurated
the exhibition showcasing the latest
solutions and designs for electricity and waterrelated
industries held in conjunction with the
conference with the participation of over 130
companies representing 23 countries from all
corners of the world. In his statements about
this grand event HE Dr Al Sada said that Qatar
adopts a plan which it has been implementing
for some years now to make Qatar as it is today
one of a very few countries with a surplus
supply of electricity and water. He said that
Qatar continues to plan for the future in light of
the accelerated development that the country
is witnessing in all residential, economic and
industrial fields.
He added that development at such astounding
rate requires additional supplies of electricity
and water. Water and electricity consumption
in Qatar has increased during the past five
years at 13% and 11% respectively, while the
ratio is only 2% in the rest of the world. “This is
why we are in continuous race which we won
to become one of the very few countries with
surplus supply of respectively third and over
20% of its required amount of power and water
supplies, thus surpassing the current local
requirements for these essential resources”,
he added. He stressed the importance of the
conference which gathers under one roof for
the first time the world’s major players in electricity
and water industry in Qatar in a practical
step as electricity and water are produced
in the Middle East and particularly in the GCC
countries bilaterally. Dr. Al Sada indicated that
the conference is one of the most important
events to tackle the plans and strategies alongside
with the technological developments in
these two vital fields.
The Abu Dhabi-based International Renewable
Energy Agency (IRENA) and a number of water
and electricity authorities and power companies
in UAE participated in the conference and
exhibition, which was sponsored by PennWell
Corporation in association with KAHRAMAA
and Qatar Electricity and Water Company, the
official sponsor of the event.
