KAHRAMAA has succeeded in attaining ISO:9001/2008 and BS ISO 10015:1999 Quality
Management (QM) Guidelines for Training. This makes KAHRAMAA among the very few entities
in the Middle East who succeeded in attaining these world acclaimed certificates. It comes within
the framework of implementing Qatar National Vision 2030 where the achievement of sustainable
human development is one of the most important pillars besides, it has been highlighted as a key
part of the National Development Strategy 2012-2016.
KAHRAMAA has implemented QM and Training Requirements as it has taken upon itself the
responsibility of applying the highest quality standards as part of its commitment to the objectives
of Qatarization and the efficient development of the national cadres. This achievement is added to
KAHRAMAA accomplishments as a result of the relentless efforts and teamwork spirit. It reflects
the high quality and performance efficiency of KAHRAMAA employees.
The pursuit of quality and hard work to achieve sustainable human development is a strategic
goal of KAHRAMAA. In line with this goal, KAHRAMAA gives special attention to recruitment
of the largest possible number of skilled Qatari graduates at different levels and jobs. For the
realization of this end, KAHRAMAA has developed an ambitious plan to attract Qatari cadres of
students and graduates to Qatarize a range of different jobs. In addition, KAHRAMAA has plans
for employees’ capacity building includes several core training & scholarship programs.

QSAS AWARD FOR BEST SUSTAINABLE BUILDING
“KAHRAMAA Awareness Park” project attained 5-star QSAS
Commercial Design Certification in the Green Building Solutions
Conference and Exhibition, Doha 2011.
The Awareness Park meets all the
technical requirements set by the
committee. Considering the urban
connectivity, the building develops
effective measures to minimize
obstruction of daylight. It
provides landscape that encourages green and
fights desertification. As for energy and water,
the building applies efficient lighting, cooling,

plumbing, and irrigation systems.
Kahramaa has awarded consultancy services
contract (GTC 267/2008) to a reputable Consulting
Engineering to provide full engineering
services to Kahramaa Awareness Park including
detailed design of the building as a green building
in compliance with QSAS requirements. The
project comprises a prestigious building that
will be located at Al Thumama.
KAHRAMAA Awareness Park objectives are:
To enhance the awareness of the consumers
on the importance of adopting precautionary
steps towards conserving the consumption of
both Electricity & Water, with special concentration
on the school and University students
sector as it represents the future of Qatar.
To stimulate consumers for conservation of
both Electricity & Water and highlight on the

It applies efficient lighting, cooling, plumbing,

heat water and a system to treat grey water.
methods and procedures of rationalizing the
consumption with continuous updating on all
upcoming new methods and procedures.
To demonstrate in an attractive way the
processes of electricity generation and water
desalination industry from the sea water in Qatar
with illustration of all stages from production
to distribution including transmission and
storage.
To urge consumers in order to reduce the
per capita consumption of Electricity and Water
and reach the international per capita rate
of consumption.
To form an additional innovative source, entertainment
and leisure space for the consumers
specially children at early ages.
The design works and construction tender
documents have been completed and it is
anticipated to be floated within next month
(April 2011). The completion date is expected
to be at the end of 2012 and the park will be
open to visitors on early 2013.The estimated
capital cost of KAHRAMAA Awareness Park is
QR 180,000,000.00.
It is worth mentioning that Eng. Essa Bin
Hilal Al-Kuwari, Qatar General Electricity &
Water “KAHRAMAA” President received Qatar
Sustainability Assessment System (QSAS)
Award on 3 March for KAHRAMAA Awareness
Park which achieved 5-star QSAS Commercial
Design Certification. KAHRAMAA Awareness
Park comes within the corporation commitment
to Qatar Vision 2030 which among
its four main objectives there is environment
sustainable development. The Park symbolizes
KAHRAMAA’s commitment towards its valued
customers and social responsibility. It comes as
a positive contribution to sustainable development
of the community. It aims to become a
model center for disseminating awareness of
electricity and water conservation awareness
with special concentration on the school and
university students sector as it represents the
future of Qatar. It will also demonstrate in an attractive
way the complete processes of electricity
generation and water desalination from sea.
The park, which open its doors for the public in
the beginning of 2013 will form an innovative
source of entertainment and leisure space for
the consumers specially children at early ages.
The Awareness park building located in Al
Thumama area is given this award for meeting
all technical requirements put by the committee
including

GCC Power
Interconnection Grid
H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum attenED the ceremony
Al-Kuwari pointed out that the GCCIA intended
to implement further joint interconnection
projects with the neighboring grids to
pave the way for interconnection with the
European System.
Under the patronage and in the
attendances of H.H. Sheikh
Mohammed bin Rashid
Al-Maktoum UAE Vice
President, Prime Minister of
UAE and Ruler of Dubai, a
ceremony was held on 20 April in Abu Dhabi
on the occasion of linking UAE grid to GCC
interconnection power grid. The ceremony was
attended by Ministers in charge of electricity
in GCC countries.

In his speech, KAHRAMAA president
H.E. Essa bin Hilal Al-Kuwari, Chairman of
Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection
Authority (GCCIA), extended congratulations
to UAE and GCC countries on this
accomplishment which has been achieved
in a record time under the patronage and
instructions of GCC leaders.
Al-Kuwari highlighted the importance
of the interconnection project for GCC
countries where he displayed the components
of the project of linking UAE grid to
GCC main grid. He pointed out that GCC
interconnection project will avoid electricity
partial or total power outage in a way ensures
reliable and stable electricity services.
The project reflects the cooperation among
GCC countries as it enables the interconnected
states to make use of the electricity surplus
in order to reduce the reserve of generation
capacity by 50%. In addition, a joint market for
power exchange will be launched.

and BS ISO 10015:1999
Quality Management (QM) Guidelines for
Training. The section has established and applied
a QM system according to ISO 9001:2008
requirements for training and development of
KAHRAMAA employees and for Qatarization,
scholarship, and recruitment.
On this occasion, we interviewed Eng.
Khamis Ahmed Al-Mohannadi Human Resources
Department Manager.
First of all, we’d like to extend you all greetings on
attaining ISO 9001: 2008 and BS ISO 10015:1999,
what do these certificates mean?
Thank you for your initiative. Let me explain
what is ISO. ISO is a series of specifications
meant to qualify the services corporations and
industrial companies to develop and document
a Quality Management system. The system is

meant mainly to achieve customer satisfaction
and meet their needs as per the contractual
terms and other agreed upon requirements.
The internal management system assures the
quality of products and services (such as electricity
and water) the corporation delivers to
customers. ISO 9001 is one of the standards
credited by the International Organization
for Standardization. The system application
should ensure the efficiency and credibility of
Qatarization, training, and development for
all employees and job applicants and met their
expectations. Following the instructions of
H.E. Eng. Essa Hilal Al-Kuwari we, in HR Department,
were committed to apply a quality
management system to ensure achieving our
Qatarization, training, and development objectives.
We managed to apply the Quality management
system ISO 9001:2008 in training and
development of KAHRAMAA employees and
for Qatarization, scholarship, and recruitment.
The section has also complied with BS ISO
10015:1999 QM Guidelines for training in the
scope of training, development and education
for KAHRAMAA employees. This achievement
makes KAHRAMAA HR one of the few departments
in the Middle East attaining these two
certificates together.
With reference to Qatarization, what is KAH-
RAMAA policy in this concern?
HR Department has attained the highest certificates
of ISO in management and training
within KAHRAMAA commitment to apply
Qatar National Vision (QNV) 2030 where the
achievement of sustainable human development
is one of its main pillars. Moreover, it
is the key part of the National Development
Strategy 2011-2016. This goal goes in line
with KAHRAMAA objective «Maximizing the
employment of capable Qatari nationals and
develop them to the competence level of employees
in leading international companies».
KAHRAMAA gives the highest priority to the
employment of as much Qatari graduates and
qualified cadres at all levels and specifications
as possible. KAHRAMAA has designed a program
to increase the number of Qatari employees
by 2% annually for the Qataris percentage
to hit 52% of total employees by 2013.
What steps did KAHRAMAA take to achieve
this objective?
For the realization of this objective, HR has an
ambitious plan to attract students and graduates
to occupy different jobs in KAHRAMAA
especially in the field of electricity and water.
KAHRAMAA plan for the development of Qatari
employees includes various core programs
such as: scholarship, Clerical Preparation Program
(CPP), Technician Preparation Program
(TPP), security preparation program, English
& computer training programs, and on the job

training. In addition, KAHRAMAA has programs
for the development of the senior management
by contracting with leading international
companies in the administrative field
including London Business School and Management
Center Europe.
You have attained two certificates in training,
what are the distinguished characteristics of
training in KAHRAMAA?
KAHRAMAA has developed specialized training
programs for the development of the personal,
technical, and leadership skills of its employees
to be able to assume responsibilities.
Some of these programs are permanent for the
continuous capacity building of employees on
scientific basis. They are meant for employees
to acquire practical skills help carrying out
tasks as per the international standards. This
includes Individual Development Program
(IDP). IDP, started in 2007, copes with the
technological and administrative development
the world rapidly pursues. It is a comprehensive
program aims at channeling technical and
administrative career and training for KAHRA-
MAA employees who occupy technical or administrative
jobs.
The Quality management system of the Qatarization,
Training, and Development Section copes
with BS ISO 10015:1999 Guidelines for Training
in the scope of training, development and education
for KAHRAMAA employees through IDP.
IDP is one of the best programs in the State.
It is meant to ensure a benchmark capacity
building of KAHRAMAA employees within two
main aspects: the first is providing the practical
side as complementary to the academic theoretical
training. The second is developing employee
skills and occupational knowledge as
per the international development in his career.
Various training programs have been designed
for the development of employee skills. This
includes training courses inside and outside
the State where the employee is informed of at
the beginning of the year according to the established
training plan. There are other training
programs including English and Computer
courses, on the job training for the development
of the technical and administrative skills,
and courses for the development of the security
guards in addition to other various programs.
What about capacity building though scholarships;
do you have a plan in this regard?
In addition to training, KAHRAMAA believes
that education is the key way to achieve development
objectives and thus Qatarization’s.
KAHRAMAA scholarship program is one
of the best programs in the State. It is meant
for the high quality qualification and capacity
building of students expected to assume technical
and administrative jobs in KAHRAMAA.
It should encourage Qatari youth to involve in
scientific specifications in a way increases the
number of professional Qataris in KAHRA-
MAA. Since 2007, KAHRAMAA has started to
attract and sponsor distinguished general and
technical secondary graduates to receive high
level engineering and administrative education
at leading international universities inside
and outside Qatar. Once contracted and start
the university education, KAHRAMAA scholars
are considered senior staff and join one of
KAHRAMAA departments as per their specifications.
Scholars study Electrical, Mechanical,
and Computer Engineering, as well as Business
Administration, Finance, and Law in UK, USA,
and Australia universities. KAHRAMAA aims
at increasing the number of scholars especially
in technical specifications.
Well, that is about scholarships for potential employees,
why you do not offer scholarships for the
training of current employees?
KAHRAMAA is one of the leading corporations
in this area. we have attachment programs for
employees. They undergo training as per the established
plan. It is meant for the development
of employee skills by attaching them to international
companies for experience exchange
in engineering, technical, and administrative
fields. 75 engineers have received training in
Singapore leading companies while there are
initiatives to conclude agreements with Spanish,
French, and Australian electricity and water
companies.

KAHRAMAA Signed Employment and Scholarship Contracts at QCF 2011
In line with its objective of «Maximizing
the employment of capable Qatari
nationals and develop them to the competence
level of employees in leading
international companies», Qatar General
Electricity & Water Corporation “KAH-
RAMAA” signed employment and scholarship
contracts with a number of promising Qataris
on 12 April 2011 at Qatar Career Fair (QCF)
2011. The recruits are expected to join different
engineering, technical and other administrative
jobs available.

progress while the selection procedure of QCF
applicants will be completed in order to hold
an open employment day exclusively for QCF
applicants. Al-Mohannadi pointed out that the

HR department has designed an ambitious program
to annually increase the number of Qatari
employees by 2% during the coming five years
for Qatarization to hit 52 % of total employees
by the end of 2013. “In fact, the main interest is
channeled to increasing the investment in the
Qatari cadres rather than the Qatarization percentage,”
Al- Mohannadi concluded.

Fatima Al-Merri, who signed a scholarship contract
with KAHRAMAA said, “joining KAH-
RAMAA gives me great honor, I am so proud

today” adding that I applied a scholarship application
at KAHRAMAA booth where I was so
pleased to receive an immediate approval during
QCF. They advised me to study international
relations in UK. “I hope to serve KAHRAMAA
through this program.” said Al-Merri.
Hamad Ali Al-Korbi was selected within
KAHRAMAA scholarship program. He said,
“joining KAHRAMAA is great. I will do my best
in my study of electric engineering in Liverpool
University – UK”. Al-Korbi extended gratitude
to KAHRMAA officials for providing this opportunity
adding that the scholarship program
is one of the best programs in the State. It is
meant for the high quality qualification and capacity
building of students expected to assume
technical and administrative jobs in KAH-
RAMAA. It should encourage Qatari youth to
involve in scientific specifications in a way increases
the number of professional Qataris in
KAHRAMAA. “I hope I am on the successful
track,” said Al-Korbi.
Khalid Ahmed Al-Naimi signed an employment
contract as Water Project Engineer. He
said, ”it my pleasure to join this leading Qatari
corporation. I am so glad to assume a new job
in my major; mechanical engineering. I am
a graduate of Faculty of Engineering – Qatar
University and I will work at Water Projects
Department. I recognize the vital role KAHRA-
MAA plays in the economic and urban development
the State of Qatar witnesses and I have
heard about the huge storage capacity project
KAHRAMAA implements by the construction
of giant reservoirs in order to ensure Qatar
needs of water for seven days. It is one of the
greatest projects in this field.
“I am really proud of joining this corporation
and I hope to achieve administrative and technical
development in my new job” said Al-Naimi.

WATER EVENTS 2011

bin Saleh Al-Sada Minister of Energy
and Industry on the occasion
of Arab Water Day..
Within the Arab common work,
the State of Qatar celebrates Arab
Water Day (AWD) on the 3 March. It marks
Qatar‘s consideration of the importance of water
as a main element in Arab water security as
a national comprehensive concept where all
development plans should integrate in order
to achieve water, food, and health for all Arab
countries.
The State of Qatar, under the leadership
of H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani
the Emir of Qatar, stresses the importance of
achieving the Arab water security, maintaining
Arab water rights, and meeting challenges. It
participated in setting and activating the Arab
water security strategy to meet the challenges
and the future requirements of the sustainable
development. This should enable the Arab
states to optimally use water resources to meet
the risks including desertification. The State
of Qatar calls for a unified Arab vision and the
activation of the instructive initiatives.
The State of Qatar welcomes experience
exchange in the field of water desalination
technology. It has become a destination for
Arab delegations to get acquainted with
its experience in this field. It encourages
researches and investments in water projects
to maintain water resources, get untraditional
resources, and achieve the optimal use and
management of water resources.

development and upgrade of water networks
for strategies to be aligned with Qatar National
Vision goals and aspirations in the strategic
plans.
The provision of safe and continuous water
supplies is one of KAHRAMAA objectives. It
continuously endeavors to provide high quality
water supplies to its customers as per the
highest local and international standards; as it
applies strict control programs. KAHRAMAA
managed to expand water pumping. Water
security is one of KAHRAMAA main current
concerns. It seeks to secure Qatar needs of
water for seven days by the construction of
giant reservoirs. KAHRAMAA also met the
increasing demand for water estimated at 12%
in 2010 where various production facilities
have been commissioned as well.

Here I’d like to hail KAHRAMAA efforts in
the field of water conservation as it became
a national issue. It has a great role to play
in development within the global warming,
lake of water, and other political and regional
conflict on water resources.
Water is the great concern of the Arab
countries. Within these circumstances
especially the lake of water the Arab countries
suffer, we have to optimally use water

resources and observe water conservation. I
ask all water users to do their best for water
conservation by deeply rooting the culture of
water conservation in our children for this
valuable resource to Last.

Water is an essential element in development
as it plays a vital role in all social, economic,
economic, industrial, and developmental
projects. All countries endeavor to provide
water continuously from all available sources
in order to meet the increasing demand for
water.
Arab countries celebrate Arab Water Day
(AWD) on the 3rd of March to highlight the
importance of this vital resource, as well as the
challenges to provide and maintain in order
to ensure the sustainable development in the
Arab countries.
KAHRAMAA participates in Qatar’s
celebrations as it holds several activities for
customer awareness of the significance of water
conservation and ways to reduce consumption
as per the Law No. 26/2008 on electricity and
water conservation.
KAHRAMAA endeavors to meet its mission
of providing customers with high quality
water services at the lowest price as per
the instructions of H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin
Khalifa Al Thani the Emir of Qatar and H.H.
Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, The Heir

WWD & GCC Water Week – In
Commercial Malls
Within KAHRAMAA celebrations of World
Water Day (WWD) and GCC Water Week,
the Public Relations Department organized
several activities in big bommercial Malls.
The celebration included awareness contests
highlighting the importance of water,
where gifts were given to children in the
participation of Qatoura & Kahroub.
increasing demand for water during peak times
in spite of the increasing number of customers.
Recent statistics showed that KAHRAMAA
serves 210.000 customer at an increase of 14%
compared with the end of 2009.
KAHRAMAA has projects for the expansion
of water networks to cope with the urban
expansion. It works to provide the new areas
with potable water through water networks
implemented as per the highest international
technical standards.
Considering the strategic water security,
KAHRAMAA has set plans meant to ensure
water supply during emergency cases.
KAHRAMAA has also a plan, in cooperation
with the Ministry of Environment and Qatar
food security program, to study the feasibility
of groundwater basin feed by desalinated water
injection to meet water needs for long period.
KAHRAMAA endeavors to reduce water loss. It
has a project for the replacement of old pipelines.
It also has a study conducted with an international
experience houses specialized in this field.
Water supplies are subject to daily tests
in KAHRAMAA highly equipped laboratory
to ensure the safety of water provided to
customers and its compliance with the
international standards.
On the occasion of Arab Water Day, I hope
all nationals and expatriates apply water
conservation to reduce water misuse in order
to maintain water for the coming generations.
Customers in general and families in particular
are invited to deeply root the culture of
conservation in children for the conservation
of this valuable bless.
KAHRAMAA Organized
Water for Cities March as part of Celebrations
of WWD & GCC Water Week
Within KAHRAMAA celebrations of World
Water Day (WWD) and GCC Water Week,
the Public Relations Department organized
“Water for Cities: Responding to Urban
Challenge” March.
This march aims at motivating community to
conserve water and highlight its importance
in achieving sustainable development.

It is a procedure or act meant to achieve an
outcome characterized by innovation, suitability,

refers to an integrated set of elements lead to

(Environmental Systems Research Institute)

in GIS Technology. ESRI monitors worldwide
GIS development information through authorized
distributors. M/s Mannai Trading & Co.
is the authorized ESRI Distributor in the State
of Qatar, nominated Water GIS)from Qatar) for
the year 2011 SAG award after successful completion
of GIS project.
Challenges led to project:
Water GIS faced several challenges due to storing
GIS data in various digital formats, missing
tools for Data Maintenance, lacking of integrations
between other Enterprise Systems and

difficulties of Engineering Drawings retrieval.
Project Details:
Water GIS initiated the “GIS Technology Migration
and Transition Project” to Develop a
solid GIS platform for enabling better GIS services
aiming to meet objectives including Centralized
GeoDatabase, WEB based Solutions,
Integrated enterprise databases and Automated
manual processes of major functions.
Problems solved:
On successful completion of the project, water
GIS accomplished centralized GeoDatabase
which supports multiuser editing (Versioning
Mechanism) and enhance data maintenance,
WEB based solution through intranet which
assists decision making via Geographical information
on fingertips, GIS database integration
with other corporate databases which allows
exchanging information, and automation
of data uploading, verification, updating processes
which improves data processing time.
Selection Process:
Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation
(“Kahramaa” – Water GIS) requested
to M/s Mannai Trading & Co. to be enrolled
in ESRI award selection, for recognizing organizations
that have made significant contributions
and advancements in GIS Technology.
Jack Dangermond (President, ESRI) solicited
nominations of outstanding users from
vertical industry managers, U.S. regional offices,
and international distributors. All Nominations
of the applied organizations projects
were carefully evaluated and 150 projects were
chosen from more than 100,000 ESRI clients
worldwide.
Award Details:
Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) award is
given to few selected user sites from around
the world as recognition of their outstanding
work with GIS technology. KAHRAMAA representative
will receive this prestigious SAG
award during the 11th -15th of July 2011 ESRI
International User Conference which is held in
San Diego.
In fact, Water GIS initiatives of building a
solid platform for providing GIS services to
internal users has accomplished through this
project which has set GIS Section ready to deliver
future solutions and services.

kahramaa Tendered
Reconstruction &
Upgrading of Old Salwa RPS
In its commitment to observe local and international
Health, Safety, and Environment
standards, Qatar General Electricity
& Water Corporation “KAHRAMAA”
floated a tender for the reconstruction
and upgrade of Old Salwa Reservoir and
Pumping Station. The tender includes the demolishing
of reservoirs & existing buildings to
ensure the high quality of the reservoirs. The
tender includes the necessary works for temporary
shifting of the operation and maintenance
staff, construction of 30 MIG reservoir, operation
and maintenance office building, chlorination
building, lagoon, guard house, reconstruction
of tanker filling station in addition to any
necessary modifications.
KAHRAMAA follows UN approved
techniques for environment protection in all
electricity and water projects. It performs
regular maintenance for all water stations to
ensure equipment safety.
The expert team carries out studies meant
to ensure the safety of people at areas home of
KAHRAMAA projects.

A
delegation of Qatar General Electricity
& Water Corporation
“KAHRAMAA” headed by KAH-
RAMAA President H.E. Essa bin
Hilal Al-Kuwari accompanied by
a number of KAHRAMAA top officials,
visited Siemens – India in February this
year.
The three day visit included meetings and
tours to some of the company factories and current
projects to get acquainted with the recent
products and technologies applied in the field of
electricity.
This visit came within KAHRAMAA commitment
to promote cooperation and experience exchange
with the friend countries and the international
companies in the field of electricity.

Company – Oman visited Qatar
General Electricity & Water
Corporation “KAHRAMAA”
on 26/3/2011 to get acquainted
with its experience in the field
of electricity distribution. The visit came in
line with the experience exchange between the
State of Qatar and the Sultanate of Oman.
Eng. Abdulla Ali Al-Deyab, Electricity
Distribution Department Manager, received
the Omani delegation headed by Eng. Salem
Al-Kaabi Operation and Maintenance Manager
accompanied with Eng. Ali Al-Maieni, Head
of Operation and Maintenance Section (North
Batinah).
The delegation paid a field tour to Distribution
Control Center, distribution network call center,
and electricity maintenance workshops where
they get acquainted with the development,
operation, planning, and maintenance works
of Qatar distribution network. The Omani
delegation expressed their admiration of the
level of operation and maintenance services.

Al-Kuwari chaired the Corporate
Performance Review (CPR) meeting
of the 4th quarter 2010 in the
attendance of KAHRAMAA Directors, Managers,
Head of sections, and senior staff.
The meeting reviewed the performance development
of the different departments, problem
analysis, work progress in current projects,
and executive procedures taken to overcome.

The CPR meeting provides a comprehensive
evaluation of performance and business.
The meeting focused on the strategic plans
and projects KAHRAMAA implemented in
the electricity and water sectors in addition
to other services it provides. The meeting
tackled, as well, project implementation, corporate
performance review, and customer
services enhancement. The meeting reviewed
KAHRAMAA strategic vision of future projects
in line with Qatar need of electricity and
water as a result of the comprehensive development
the State witnesses.
At the end of the meeting, H.E. Al-Kuwari
expressed his appreciation of the accomplishments
achieved and the great development
of KAHRAMAA business and projects
in 2010.
He also appreciated the efforts of KAHRA-
MAA staff who contributed to the development
KAHRAMAA witnessed at all levels.
Al-Kuwari stressed KAHRAMAA commitment
to anticipate the future and efficiently

Customer Relations Section, Public Relations
Department (PR) held the first meeting of
KAHRAMAA Friends Club (KMFC) for year
2010/2011 in KAHRAMAA headquarters.
The meeting was attended by Customer Relations
Officers Mrs. Somaya Al-Mutawa and
Mrs. Aisha Al-Mutawaa along with school
coordinators, Mrs.Dhahabia Al-Nuaimi, Um
Al- Amad preliminary independent school for
girls, Mrs. Badria Al-Kubaisi and Mrs. Faten,
Al-Markhiya preliminary independent school
for girls, Mrs. Zainab, Qatar Preparatory independent
school for girls, Mrs. Nada Al-Hajiri,

At the beginning of the meeting, KAHRA-
MAA representatives welcomed all attendants
then they reviewed the meeting main issues in
addition to activities and programs implemented
by the participating schools. The meeting
discussed the awareness plans, programs, and
activities and ways of activating conservation
behavior proposed by some groups in close cooperation
with Customer Relations Section.
The meeting touched upon the activities
and programs suggested to be implemented in
World Water Day (WWD) GCC and Arab Water
Week coincide 22nd March.
Mrs Somaya Al-Mutawa emphasized the importance
of activating KMFC groups in order to
create a communication link between students
and Customer Relations Section, the founder of
KMFC. It is meant to develop and disseminate
awareness ideas in a corporative way deeply
roots the principle of conservation in school
students. “the Public Relations Department
plan on KMCF groups has a strategic objective
for the future generations” she clarified.
On her part, Mrs. Aisha Al-Mutawaa stressed
the significance of developing and introducing
awareness programs in order to encourage students
to disseminate electricity and water conservation.
At the end of the meeting, participants
agreed on the recommendations on proposals
and activities to be implemented in the next
period including Qatora and Kahrob magazine
planned to be produced by the students themselves.

KAHRAMAA Organized
the 3 rd Meeting of GCC
Electricity Regulators
The State of Qatar, represented by
Qatar General Electricity & Water
Corporation “KAHRAMAA” organized
the 3 rd meeting of GCC Electricity
Regulators Forum during the
period form 22 – 23 March 2011. It
came within the GCC unified efforts for the development
of electricity sectors to ensure the
sustainability of services in GCC countries.
KAHRAMAA President H.E. Essa bin Hilal Al-
Kuwari opened the forum where he delivered a
speech expressing his pleasure to host this important
event as it comes up with recommendations
for the development and upgrade of electricity
regulations in GCC member states. Moreover, it
is meant to cope with the world development in
the technical, administrative, and organizational
aspects. The forum is one of GCC cooperation
basis as it discussed various issues including the
electromagnetic field and IWPP experience.

The meeting reviewed the performance
reports of the different departments including
an analysis of the encountered problems,

meeting was vital as it reviewed the measures
taken by KAHRAMAA departments and affiliated
stand-by offices to meet the challenge of
over consumption expected in the summer.

MEED 2011– Doha
Qatar General Electricity
& Water Corporation
“KAHRAMAA” revealed
its strategic and development
plans in the field of
electricity and water infrastructure
in Qatar for the coming ten years. It was
announced by Eng. Saad Ahmed Al-Mohannadi,
Technical Affairs Director in the presentation on
“Business Opportunities in Power & Water Sectors
in Qatar” which he delivered before MEED
conference held recently in Doha.
Al-Mohannadi said, “the foreign investment
in electricity generation and water desalination
during the last 10 years was approximately
QR12 billion, while transmission contracts valued
QR28.3 billion during that period.”
Al-Mohannadi revealed the various opportunities
KAHRAMAA presents in the field of
Power & Water infrastructure in Qatar for
the period 2011-2021. He explained that the
development plans over this period in power
and water generation, electricity and water
networks expansions will be in the order of
nearly QR69 billion. Expected investment
in electricity networks projects during the
coming ten years is QR 30 billion. while the
expected investment in water networks projects
during the same period is QR22 billion.
which is a significant growth initiative to
meet the unprecedented economic & infrastructural
growth in the State of Qatar.
KAHRAMAA official presented a detailed
explanation of the project designed for the
construction of a number of huge reservoirs
of 1902 MIG total capacity and transmission
pipeline ranging in size from 1200 mm dia.
and 2800 mm dia. at an approximate length
of 183 km. It is considered one of the strategic
and vital projects within the seven day storage
capacity policy.
He highlighted that KAHRAMAA is currently
conducting two vital pilot projects. The
first is the installment of electronic meters, expected
to be awarded by April 2011, for the installation
of 12000 electricity meters and 8000
water meters at the West Bay and Airport areas;
then the project, if proven success, will be
applied all over the State by 2015. The second
project is water production by RO. It provides a
water production technology with no need for
additional power generators. It is expected to
be operated by the end of 2012 at a capacity of
5 MIGD.
Al-Mohannadi pointed out that KAHRAMAA
endeavors to apply innovative projects for the
provision of high quality services for customers.
He also mentioned that while KAHRAMAA
is growing in the conventional energy field it is
alive to the futuristic trends and has concrete
plans to contribute in the emerging alternative
and renewable green energy filed such as solar
and wind.

the 12 th
Meeting
of GCCIA Operation Committee
The 12 th meeting of operation committee affiliated to GCC
Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) was held on 25/1/2011
at The National Control Center (NCC) of Qatar General
Electricity & Water Corporation “KAHRAMAA”. The
meeting was attended by representatives of the six GCC
countries and GCCIA.
The participants were displayed a summary on the development of
electricity system in Qatar and KAHRAMAA preparedness and measures
to deal with future overloads. Afterwards a workshop was held
where a GCCIA consultant presented preparations of the next phase
where UAE is expected to join GCCIA grid, and the technical studies
meant to ensure the secure operation of GCC grid.
The regular meeting of the operation committee was held to review
operation obstacles and discuss proposal submitted by the member
states.

MAA representative in this meeting.
KAHRAMAA
participated in
“Careers for
Engineers”
at Texas A&M
Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation
“KAHRAMAA” participated in Texas A&M Qatar’s
the “Careers for Engineers” day, in February
this year. The event, took place from 1.00 pm to
7.00 pm, came within KAHRAMAA Qatarization
policy and in its commitment to gives priority to
the applications of the promising Qatari engineers.
The day included interviews with the Qatari engineering graduates
of Texas A&M University and scholarship nominees.
It is worth to mention that Scholarship program in KAHRAMAA is
one of the best programs in the State. It is meant for the high quality
qualification and capacity building of students expected to assume
technical and administrative jobs in KAHRAMAA for the Qatarization
of such jobs. It should encourage Qatari youth to involve in scientific
specifications in a way increases the number of trained and professional
Qataris in KAHRAMAA. The main objective of the scholarship
program is achieving student security by providing facilities and support
to all students.

Living, in Qatar Petroleum Environment
Fair 2011 (QPEF) held at Doha Exhibition Center
during the period from 1 – 3 April 2011.
KAHRAMAA’s participation is meant to get

the audience acquainted with the rules and procedures
it takes to protect the environment and
conserve environmental resources. It also has
awareness objectives beside environment protection
and the conservation of vital resources.
KAHRAMAA had a prestigious booth in the
QPEF includes screens where films on KAH-
RAMAA environment protection activities will
be displayed on. KAHRAMAA has prepared an
electronic green questionnaire to interactively
and simply disseminate the awareness of environment
friendly behavior and practices. It
makes use of the available methods that help in
the sustainability of the environmental system
in our daily life.
KAHRAMAA endeavors to get a simple interactive
mechanism to disseminate positive
awareness messages where individuals find
practical steps they can follow in house, office,
work site, and car to reduce the waste of
the available resources. It should introduce
the right practices in the field of environment
protection. KAHRAMAA shall distribute corporate
and awareness publications. The scientific
methodology KAHRAMAA adopts for the
application of environment protection policies
and the support of the technological and
educational data base will be introduced to the
audience to get acquainted with the different
methods of environment protection.

Arab Water Ministers
Council Meetings
The State of Qatar, represented by a
delegation of Qatar General Electricity
& Water Corporation “KAH-
RAMAA” headed by H.E. Eng. Essa
bin Hilal Al-Kuwari, KAHRAMAA
President, participated in the fourth
meeting of the scientific technical consultation
committee of the Arab Water Ministers Council
held in Arab League headquarters - Cairo,
Egypt on 24 - 26 April. The meeting was meant
to prepare the agenda of the Executive Bureau
of the Arab Water Ministers Council meeting
held on 26 April, 2011.
The meeting discussed issues related to water
desalination and following up the water
security strategy in the region to meet all challenges
and requirements of the sustainable development.
The meeting reviewed the experiences
of cooperation among Arab countries in
the utilization of common underground water,
promoting the negotiation skills of the Arab
countries sharing water resources with non
Arab states, council program of work in 2009 –
2010, and cooperation with Arab, regional, and
international organizations, financial institutions,
and civil society organizations.

in MAP Middle East
2011 Conference and
Exhibition
Under the theme “Regional
Spatial Data Infrastructure
and Capacity Building”, Qatar
General Electricity & Water
Corporation “KAHRAMAA”
participated in MAP Middle
East 2011 Conference and Exhibition held during
the period from 15-17 April in Doha.
KAHRAMAA’s participation came in line of
Qatar’s rapid growth in terms of knowledge
economy which enables the country to enter a
period of rapid growth in the capturing, maintain
and publishing of spatial data/information
vital for national development especially in the

field of infrastructure and services (such as
Electricity & Water) development.
Two KAHRAMAA officials presented papers
in the MAP Middle East conference. The first
was presented by Mr. Pravin More GIS coordinator
at Water Planning Department. It explored
KAHRAMAA’s Water GIS technology
migration project whose goal is to implement
latest GIS Technology within KAHRAMMA.
This project has resulted in improving data update
procedures, data quality and maintenance
activities. It has also enabled drawing visualization
through developed web viewer which has
contributed to corporate workflows for better
decision making via information availability on
fingertips.
The second paper was presented by Ms. Sara
Abdulaziz A M Al Hail, GIS Technologist at
Electricity Network Planning Department discussing
GIS Data dissemination using thin client
technology for emergency offices of KAHRA-
MAA. This application has boosted work & decision
making at corporation emergency offices.
In addition, KAHRAMAA participated with
a booth in the accompanying exhibition in order
to explore all possible avenues in terms of
cut-edge GIS technologies and to show its development
in this field.
