MANAGEMENT Creativity and Innovation in Management 18 r kahramaa Definition of innovation in management: It is a procedure or act meant to achieve an outcome characterized by innovation, suitability, and liability for development. The concept refers to an integrated set of elements lead to achieving creative and genuine production, by the individual and the community.
Advantages of creativity Creativity is a process and outcome. It is reflected in individuals’ intellectual abilities where they can find new relations between items never made before. The result of the creative work can be ideas, behavior, or material things. Applying outstanding improvement to strategies, policies, procedures, or work tools and methods; and reviewing them from time to time to ensure quality. Hence, it can be defined as innovation of a new mechanism of work through the optimal employment of the available potentials to reach the goal as soon as possible and at the minimum cost. The significance of creativity and innovation in organizations The organizations currently face continuous processes of change and improvement. They need to increase their competitive capabilities where they can provide services more efficiently. Hence the administrative aspects have to be considered in more creative way for the following reasons: The creativity increases organizations progress and liability to adapt with varieties with more flexibility in the administrative and technical processes. It helps discovering and supporting individuals’ skills and making use of for the development of the organization. It helps achieving a feeling of self actualization and accomplishment for all staff. It reduces the occurrence and growth of problems. It promotes organizations for more excellence and development. The significance of creativity training It is importance for managers and head of sections to receive training on the administrative innovation as: It develops individual’s knowledge and skills. It also affects their attitude and behavior. It helps individuals overcome personal obstacles that hinder their expression of the creative potentials. It defines development tracks in the organization. It urges individuals to compete with others as redefine work conception. It helps building staff confidence. Elements affecting creativity There are elements affecting the achievement of the administrative creativity as follows: Administrative policy and system. Administrative leadership. Organization culture and values. Motivation. Availability of knowledge and information . Available physical potentials. Individual’s self skills. Strategies to overcome creativity obstacles Encouraging individuals to resist fear of committing mistakes. Stressing the ability of individual to define the problem. Allowing sufficient time for thinking. Getting individuals’ opinions in solving problems and making decisions. Reducing and adopting with creativity organizational obstacles . Encouraging individuals to express their opinion freely. Providing financial support, in addition to relevant tools and techniques . Encouraging individuals to take the risk. Encouraging individuals to think creatively. Encouraging reaction with other beyond organization members. Encouraging creative competition among individuals and groups.
