Interconnection Grid
H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum attenED the ceremony
Al-Kuwari pointed out that the GCCIA intended
to implement further joint interconnection
projects with the neighboring grids to
pave the way for interconnection with the
European System.
Under the patronage and in the
attendances of H.H. Sheikh
Mohammed bin Rashid
Al-Maktoum UAE Vice
President, Prime Minister of
UAE and Ruler of Dubai, a
ceremony was held on 20 April in Abu Dhabi
on the occasion of linking UAE grid to GCC
interconnection power grid. The ceremony was
attended by Ministers in charge of electricity
in GCC countries.

In his speech, KAHRAMAA president
H.E. Essa bin Hilal Al-Kuwari, Chairman of
Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection
Authority (GCCIA), extended congratulations
to UAE and GCC countries on this
accomplishment which has been achieved
in a record time under the patronage and
instructions of GCC leaders.
Al-Kuwari highlighted the importance
of the interconnection project for GCC
countries where he displayed the components
of the project of linking UAE grid to
GCC main grid. He pointed out that GCC
interconnection project will avoid electricity
partial or total power outage in a way ensures
reliable and stable electricity services.
The project reflects the cooperation among
GCC countries as it enables the interconnected
states to make use of the electricity surplus
in order to reduce the reserve of generation
capacity by 50%. In addition, a joint market for
power exchange will be launched.
