“Ultra Trace Analysis of Emerging Contaminants in Water with Automated On-line SPE-LC Solutions”
Abstract: An automated instrumental on-line SPE-LC-MS solution is presented for the analysis of
selected antibiotics in aqueous matrices such as river water or ground water. This solution comprises
a sample clean-up and pre-concentration procedure combined with HPLC separation and MS
detection for highest sensitivity and selectivity. The sample preparation step uses on-line solid phase
extraction (on-line SPE). System performance is demonstrated by analyzing a selection of
representative antibiotics, mostly from the tetracycline and macrocyclic types.

“Quantification of Drugs and Metabolites in Plasma Samples by On-Line SPE-LC-MS/MS”
Abstract: In this presentation we discuss the development and validation of an on-line SPE-LC-
MS/MS method for the quantitative analysis of fexofenadine, an antihistamine drug, in plasma. The
HPLC system comprises two integrated gradient pumps which were used for sample loading, cleanup,
and separation on the analytical column. The SPE column allows direct injection of plasma samples.
