A Message from the President
All the planning and preparation is complete. Now itʼs time for you to enjoy the “Worldʼs Greatest Celebration
of Laboratory Science” – Pittcon 2008. Not only are you in one of the most exciting, vibrant, culturally unique
cities in the world, but you are about to experience an incredible week of learning. Take advantage of all
Pittcon has to offer from a comprehensive Technical Program, an extensive array of Short Courses, our
expanded Conferee Networking Sessions, and of course, Pittconʼs one-of-a-kind Exposition of laboratory
products and services. If there is anything our all-volunteer committee or office staff can do to make your
experience at Pittcon more productive, please donʼt hesitate to ask.

A Message from the Program Chairman
Welcome to the Pittcon 2008 Technical Program! We are pleased to offer a comprehensive technical
program covering all aspects of analytical chemistry and applied spectroscopy, and thank you for your input
and continuing support.
In Pittcon 2008, you will find an expanded program organized by the ACS-DAC, with whom we have coprogrammed
since Pittcon 2007. Also in the second year of operation is the facilitator-assisted Conferee
Networking Sessions which have expanded to 27 two-hour sessions covering various topics. To assist you
with your planning, Program Locators are placed in various locations in the convention center. Program
abstracts in CD-ROM format are also available at these locations as well as the Pittcon Information Booths
and the Dionex booth 5541.
As always, the success of our Technical Program is dependent on your suggestions and contributions.
Please feel free to stop by the Program Office in Room 238 of the Morial Convention Center to share your
ideas with Mitchell Johnson, the 2009 Program Chair. Your thoughts will help us build an even stronger
Technical Program.
We hope you will find Pittcon 2008 both professionally rewarding and enjoyable.

A Message from the Exposition Chairman
Welcome to the Pittcon 2008 Exposition! I hope you are wearing comfortable shoes, because now is the
time to hit the floor running. Over 1,000 companies are here showcasing the latest innovations their
companies have to offer in instrumentation, equipment, supplies and services available to the scientific
professional. All aspects of chemical analysis are represented: from analytical, bioanalytical, environmental,
forensic, and pharmaceutical. And it doesnʼt stop there; look for nanotechnology, food science, homeland
security, life science and much more. Donʼt forget to stop at “Jackson Square” in the middle of the Exposition
floor to relax, network with colleagues and take a moment to plan your day.
