The "PROFIsafe" protocol profile, developed<br />

<strong>for</strong> PROFIBUS DP, is used <strong>for</strong> communication<br />

between a fail-safe S7 CPU <strong>and</strong> the failsafe<br />

signal module.<br />

PROFIsafe was the first communication<br />

st<strong>and</strong>ard based on IEC 61508 to allow<br />

3 (Safety Integrity Level 3), Category 4<br />

(EN 954-1), it fulfills the highest dem<strong>and</strong>s<br />

<strong>for</strong> the production <strong>and</strong> process industries,<br />

<strong>and</strong> with the PA version (IEC 61158-2),<br />

PROFIBUS DP exp<strong>and</strong>s the integrated<br />

distributed automation into the process<br />

communication requirements of both the<br />

PROFIsafe counters the possibility of<br />

transmission errors due to problems such<br />

as address falsification, loss, delay, etc. with<br />

four different measures:<br />

Using slave nodes, fail-safe encoder signals<br />

from a PROFIBUS station are transmitted<br />

to the fail-safe CPU. When these encoder<br />

signals have been logically gated, an<br />

appropriate output signal is transmitted to<br />

a fail-safe PROFIBUS slave. Single-channel<br />

transmission is used, <strong>and</strong> there is no<br />

redundant transmission path.<br />

safety program based on<br />

SIGUARD®, SIMATIC® <strong>and</strong><br />

SINUMERIK® / SIMODRIVE®<br />

products. The PROFIsafe<br />

communication on the<br />
