In point-to-point communication, two stations interchange data with
one another. The point-to-point structure represents the simplest form
of communication.
The multi-point interface (MPI) is an integrated interface on
programmable controllers such as SIMATIC® or SIMOTION as well as on
SIMATIC PCs, PGs and Panels.
PROFIBUS is for data communication between programmable controllers
made by different manufacturers.
Industrial Ethernet (IEEE 802.3 and 802.3u) is the international standard
for area networks, and is currently the number one network in the LAN
landscape worldwide.
