Thomas Reidel<br />

Background and Education:<br />

Judge Reidel received his<br />

bachelor’s degree from Iowa<br />

State University <strong>in</strong> 1989 and<br />

his law degree, with high<br />

dist<strong>in</strong>ction, from <strong>the</strong> University<br />

of Iowa <strong>in</strong> 1992.<br />

Career: From 1992 to 2011,<br />

Judge Reidel was <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> private<br />

practice of law <strong>in</strong> Muscat<strong>in</strong>e,<br />

Iowa, with a primary focus on<br />

family law matters. He served<br />

as Muscat<strong>in</strong>e County magistrate from 2009 until he was<br />

appo<strong>in</strong>ted district judge.<br />

Community Activities: Judge Reidel has a long history of<br />

be<strong>in</strong>g active <strong>in</strong> his community and is a past board member<br />

of multiple non-profit organizations and <strong>the</strong> past chairman<br />

of <strong>the</strong> Muscat<strong>in</strong>e County Civil Service Commission. He<br />

currently serves on <strong>the</strong> board of directors for Early<br />

Childhood Iowa Muscat<strong>in</strong>e County. Judge Reidel is a past<br />

recipient of <strong>the</strong> Iowa Golden Seal Award for his dedication<br />

to end<strong>in</strong>g domestic violence.<br />

Professional Activities: Judge Reidel is a member of <strong>the</strong><br />

Muscat<strong>in</strong>e County Bar Association and The Iowa State<br />

Bar Association. He is a member of <strong>the</strong> Iowa Judges<br />

Association and serves on <strong>the</strong> board of directors. Judge<br />

Reidel is on <strong>the</strong> Iowa Supreme Court Advisory Committee<br />

on Probate Procedures and Forms.<br />

Family: Judge Reidel and his wife have four children.<br />

Nancy S. Tabor<br />

District Judge<br />

Background and Education:<br />

Born <strong>in</strong> Morristown, N.J., Judge<br />

Tabor was <strong>the</strong> fourth of five<br />

children. She received her<br />

bachelor’s degree <strong>in</strong> liberal arts<br />

from Somerset County College<br />

<strong>in</strong> 1978. In 1982, Judge Tabor<br />

graduated from Wm. Patterson<br />

University with a degree <strong>in</strong><br />

crim<strong>in</strong>al justice adm<strong>in</strong>istration.<br />

She attended law school at<br />

<strong>the</strong> University of Wyom<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

graduat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> 1986.<br />

Career: After graduat<strong>in</strong>g from law school, Judge Tabor<br />

worked as an assistant city attorney for <strong>the</strong> City of<br />

Cheyenne, Wyo., for a year. She <strong>the</strong>n entered private<br />

practice <strong>in</strong> Douglas, Wyo., where she worked until<br />

1989. Dur<strong>in</strong>g that time, she also worked as a treatment<br />

coord<strong>in</strong>ator/<strong>the</strong>rapist at Converse County Group Home.<br />

Judge Tabor began work<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Iowa as <strong>the</strong> assistant Cl<strong>in</strong>ton<br />

County attorney From 1989 to 1992. From 1992 to 1999,<br />

Judge Tabor worked <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> private practice of law with<br />

Baty and Tabor Attorneys <strong>in</strong> Maquoketa, Iowa. She was<br />

appo<strong>in</strong>ted to associate juvenile judge <strong>in</strong> 1994, and served<br />

until she was appo<strong>in</strong>ted to district court judge <strong>in</strong> 1999.<br />

Community Activities: Judge Tabor was <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> PEO<br />

and <strong>the</strong> General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC),<br />

serv<strong>in</strong>g as president of <strong>the</strong> Baldw<strong>in</strong> Woman’s Club and as<br />

<strong>the</strong> Jackson County Chair for two terms.<br />

She has been active <strong>in</strong> GFWC s<strong>in</strong>ce 1990, and rema<strong>in</strong>s a<br />

member of <strong>the</strong> Baldw<strong>in</strong> Woman’s Club and participates<br />

<strong>in</strong> various community service and volunteer projects<br />

throughout <strong>the</strong> year. Judge Tabor has served as <strong>the</strong><br />

Iowa State Chair of International Outreach Programs<br />

s<strong>in</strong>ce 2010. She was <strong>the</strong> chair of <strong>the</strong> board of trustees<br />

of <strong>the</strong> United Methodist Church, and was a certified lay<br />

speaker. Judge Tabor was a troop leader and is a lifetime<br />

member of Girl Scouts USA. She was a board member for<br />

<strong>the</strong> Women’s Health Services <strong>in</strong> Cl<strong>in</strong>ton, Iowa until 1994.<br />

Judge Tabor is also a regular donor to <strong>the</strong> Mississippi<br />

Valley Blood Bank.<br />

Professional Activities: Judge Tabor is a member of<br />

<strong>the</strong> Wyom<strong>in</strong>g Bar Association and The Iowa State Bar<br />

Association, and is admitted to practice <strong>in</strong> Iowa,<br />

Wyom<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>the</strong> Federal District Court for Wyom<strong>in</strong>g, 10th<br />

Circuit Court of Appeals, and <strong>the</strong> U.S. Supreme Court.<br />

She has presented at CLEs on ethics, juvenile law, and<br />

family law. From 1999 to 2010, Judge Tabor served as a<br />

designated juvenile court judge <strong>in</strong> addition to handl<strong>in</strong>g<br />

regular district court duties. As a member of <strong>the</strong> Iowa<br />

Judges Association, she served on various committees<br />

and held <strong>the</strong> positions of officer, president, liaison to The<br />

Iowa State Bar Association from 2008 to 2012, and liaison<br />

to <strong>the</strong> University of Iowa School of Journalism and Mass<br />

Communication/Iowa Judges Association collaboration for<br />

Courts and Media <strong>Judicial</strong> Panels s<strong>in</strong>ce 2002. Judge Tabor<br />

has been co-chair of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Judicial</strong> Branch Public Outreach<br />

Steer<strong>in</strong>g Committee s<strong>in</strong>ce 2004.<br />

Family and Hobbies: Married with two children, Judge<br />

Tabor enjoys family events, Iowa wrestl<strong>in</strong>g, cater<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

walk<strong>in</strong>g, sew<strong>in</strong>g, read<strong>in</strong>g, and yard work.<br />
