Michael G. Dieterich<br />

District Associate Judge<br />

Background and Education: A<br />

proud farm kid, Judge Dieterich<br />

was born <strong>in</strong> Mason City, Iowa,<br />

one of three boys <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> family.<br />

In high school, he was student<br />

body president and received<br />

<strong>the</strong> Bar Association Award. He<br />

received his bachelor’s degree,<br />

Phi Beta Kappa, Omicron Delta<br />

Kappa, and Phi Eta Sigma, from<br />

<strong>the</strong> University of Iowa <strong>in</strong> 1973.<br />

He received his law degree from<br />

<strong>the</strong> same <strong>in</strong>stitution <strong>in</strong> 1976.<br />

Community Activities: Judge Dieterich has been <strong>in</strong>volved<br />

<strong>in</strong> his church’s council and has provided children’s<br />

sermons.<br />

Professional Activities: Judge Dieterich is a member of<br />

<strong>the</strong> Des Mo<strong>in</strong>es County Bar Association and The Iowa State<br />

Bar Association and presides over <strong>the</strong> Juvenile Drug Court<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>Judicial</strong> District 8B.<br />

Family and Hobbies: Judge Dieterich and his wife have<br />

two sons. Judge Dieterich enjoys travel<strong>in</strong>g, visit<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong><br />

elderly, read<strong>in</strong>g, and sports.<br />

Career: From 1972 to 2000, Judge Dieterich was <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

private practice of law <strong>in</strong> Burl<strong>in</strong>gton, Iowa, work<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong><br />

family law and trial work.<br />

Background and Education:<br />

Born <strong>in</strong> Little Rock, Iowa, Judge<br />

Kruse attended Morn<strong>in</strong>gside<br />

College, where he received<br />

his bachelor’s degree <strong>in</strong> 1980.<br />

He attended law school at<br />

<strong>the</strong> University of Iowa and<br />

graduated <strong>in</strong> 1983.<br />

Professional Activities: Judge Kruse is a member of<br />

The Iowa State Bar Association and <strong>the</strong> Iowa Judges<br />

Association.<br />

Family: Judge Kruse is married and has one child.<br />

Career: Judge Kruse served<br />

as Appanoose County Attorney<br />

and assistant Wapello County<br />

attorney. He also worked with<br />

Child Support Recovery from 1984 to 1987.<br />
