The only thing I've heard is that it has great beaches and tasty potatoes. Hey!! You mean the patatato dish, which has no potatoes!!! It's a great delicacy. Is it a good destination? How about the beat on the island? Once you see what it has to offer, your heartbeat will definitely increase.. Get recommendations When on boat trips, the ferry often stopped at Katapola-Egiali, so I thought it would be nice to actually go some time. It was just perfect. The entire island is beautiful. Even just walking around is great. Hectic, but it was worth it. Not that I plan to go on such long walks ever again, but Amorgos…I can go back any time!! How to get there The two ports of Amorgos, Katapola and Egiali, are connected with Piraeus and other islands of the Cyclades all year round. Ferries connect the island with Naxos, the Small Cyclades and Amorgos on a daily basis, while in summer months there are also itineraries to Paros and Antiparos. Also, boats perform regular itineraries to distant beaches. 108
A M O R G O S In the middle of the Big Blue Amorgos is located southeast of Naxos, and is the far easterly island of the Cyclades. With is special natural beauty, the plain architecture of its villages and the warm residents, but also with its rich cultural heritage, Amorgos resists the speed of modern life, becoming a pleasant surprise for all visitors. Tourism infrastructure has developed at the centres of the island, as well as in all villages, and visitors can find plenty of lodging options, and taverns with delicious home-made food and fresh fish. The approximately 1,800 residents of the island are occupied in navigation, fishery, agriculture, livestock farming and tourism. The name of the island possibly originates from the Greek plant amorgos, cultivated in ancient years to provide the material for much in-demand cloaks. Take a walking tour Chora is the capital of Amorgos, built away from the sea for protection from pirates. The narrow stone-paved alleys, the small all-white houses with blue windows, the two-storey mansions and the dozens of churches, together with the windmills on the top of the hill, compose a picture of simple beauty that fascinates visitors.
