donkey up the old cobbled road opened in the rock, and by funicular
railway. The settlement of Fira is a masterpiece of architectural
perfection, with a great view to the caldera. The sights include the
Orthodox and Catholic cathedrals, the Dominican convent, the Catholic
monastery of Panagia of Rozario (Virgin of Rosarium), the Venetian Gizi
manor which accommodates the Cultural Centre of Thera, and the
