CLASSNOTES Dwight-Englewood School 50 and certification will enable me to effect my last career transition, from LDTC to school business administrator, and that I will be able to join all the Class of ’68 retirees in retirement 10 years hence. For now, I am thoroughly enjoying the renewed access to new ideas and stimulating conversation among my fellow colleagues who are traveling this path with me at this time. I have continued to keep my toe in the world of project management, and am an active volunteer in the New Jersey Chapter (PMINJ) of the national Project Management Institute (PMI). I am currently director of the Scholarships Committee, a group that reviews applications and awards scholarship to graduating high school seniors (sons/daughters of PMINJ active members), on their way to attend a four-year undergraduate college. This year, this committee extended the scholarships to also include master’s in project management candidates at PMIaccredited educational institutions.” My husband, Jens, and daughter, Anna Katherine (now 21), continue to support me in my educational pursuits, and continue to be an essential source of joy, light, inspiration, and encouragement in my life. Jens continues his work providing Danish controllers for American and Canadian smokehouse oven manufacturers, while also inventing speaker systems in our basement. He enjoys his monthly and weekly meetings with different audio groups, such as the NJ Audio Society. Anna Katherine enjoys her work as a classroom teacher’s assistant for special needs students in a private school in northwestern NJ, and her part-time work as an assistant dance instructor for young children at our local YMCA. My best wishes to all of the Dwight-Englewood family as you continue to support our current students—the next generation of leaders—in their educational and working pursuits. E 68 Class Rep Needed: Seth Guggenheim, senior assistant bar counsel for the Virginia State Bar, has accepted an invitation to join the adjunct faculty at the American University Washington College of Law. With another adjunct professor, he is teaching a course called “Trial Advocacy: Ethics for Trial Lawyers.” Seth recently moved from his home in Bethesda, MD, to Washington, DC. The correct information is as follows: Ali Chase Hassan had a fabulous time in Pasadena, CA, for son Chase MacLeod’s wedding to Melissa Martin on March 7, 2010. They had met at SMU in 2004. Wedding was at the Huntington Langham Hotel, built in the 1920s as a Ritz, and attended by oodles of Chi Os and Pikes, and lovingly officiated by Julia Fuller. Ali reports: “I’ve been promoted up to high school, and am now the lead counselor for a new high school my district is building and opening later this summer—very exciting and way overwhelming, but I’m honored and flattered and all is fantastic! Have a business conference in Austin next month and am hoping to see Nell Gorman! My son, Chase, has also been promoted by his corporate and commercial real estate company to be an associate vice president, and is now leading a team in their Orange County, CA, office. He and wife Melissa and the twin Labrador retrievers moved out there in January, just as I took my new position! We’re all great and very blessed.” E 69 Class Rep: Richard H. I have temporarily given up my career in the music industry, after working years ago with Robert Palmer and Isaac Hayes, both of whom have passed away. I have permanently given up my career in the computer industry also. My only source of income (currently) is my third career, working as an insurance producer, with a New Jersey license, creating sales leads for The Hamilton Group, which is a large insurance agency located in Cedar Knolls. I am still living in my house in Bergenfield, and I am ’single’ with two daughters, one 14 years old, and the other 27. I just returned from a beautiful cruise to Bermuda, where I sailed with my current lady, Pam. I have just taken a few weeks off, just to relax, and feel very refreshed and healthy. When I retire in a few years, I will get back into writing and producing original music. I am involved with many genres and still have my own 24-track studio to record in. I would love to hear from my fellow classmates from ESB ’69, and also from friends I remember from the classes of 1968 & 1970. Dave has purchased a horse farm in Liberty, NY, and converted it into a venue for training trotters. Last summer, Dave arranged a tour of the farm for me. It is impressive indeed. Among other stellar features, it houses one of the East’s few indoor mechanical trotting wheels. After the tour, I drove the 10 miles from Dave’s farm to Monticello Raceway and watched Dave win a race. That victory capped a summer-long racing series. In a winner’s circle presentation, racetrack authorities presented Dave with an elegant plaque for having won the series.”

His son, David Mass ’06, just graduated from the University of Delaware with a degree in finance and accounting. Gary just got a Lab puppy, so now there is a new “baby” in the house. My eldest son, Rich, is a financial planner, living in New Milford. I regularly see Randi Woodrow who I’m glad to say is back on the East Coast, and Seta Nazarian-Albrecht ’75. When Randi comes into town, I get to see her sister, Laurie ’78, who continues to run marathons around the world. I continue to work at the Paramus Barnes & Noble, hosting famous and not-so-famous author signings, along with running fundraisers and discount purchasing for schools and nonprofits. I am busy honing up my Facebook skills as I am working on our 35th Reunion (can that be possible?). He recently conducted Poulenc’s comic opera Les Mamelles de Tiresias at the Juilliard School, and Handel’s Saul in the 5000-seat amphitheater in Vaisonla-Romaine, France. He is currently celebrating his twentieth season as artistic director of Cantori New York, with Spring 2011 51
