Under the supervision of Physical Therapists, Physical
Therapist Assistants (PTAs) help patients who
are suffering from physical disabilities, movement
dysfunctions, and pains.
As a PTA, you might help with treatment programs
that incorporate therapeutic exercises, therapeutic
heat and cold, massage therapy, ultrasound, electronic
current therapy, ultraviolet therapy, traction therapy,
and more!
PTAs identify bar ri ers for the disabled and assist in
teaching other professionals, patients and families
to perform treatment pro ce dures, exercises and
functional ac tiv i ties. They recognize the psychosocial
ef fects of illness and injury and know how to interact
ap pro pri ate ly with patients and the patients’ families.
What can I expect?
As a student of our 20 month, nationally accredited
Physical Therapist Assistant program, you’ll get the
latest and most effective classroom instruction, and
valuable experience in our fully equipped Physical
Therapy Labs. You will also complete a clinical
experience.
Individuals interested in the PTA program should
have a strong people skills and some background
in the biological sciences. Potential students should
also be fit, as the physical demands placed on a PTA
include moderate to heavy lifting.
Upon successful completion of required courses,
grad u ates will be awarded an Associate of Applied
Science (A.A.S.) degree and will be eligible to take the
national certification exam.
Opportunities
“Employment of physical therapist assistants
is expected to grow by 35 percent from 2008
through 2018, much faster than the average for all
occupations.” -US Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Graduates of this program report high job satisfaction
and excellent wages. Our Physical Therapist Assistants
can locate jobs in hospitals, long-term care facilities,
rehabilitation centers, schools and private practice
clinics.
Application Process
Acceptance into the PTA program is limited to 24
stu dents. Applicants are evaluated based on G.P.A.,
scho las tic aptitude and essay questions. Detailed
