Gunner Gareth Lueng has been in the TA for four years
soldiers from 208 Bty 103 Regt
Royal Artillery deployed to the Peak District
National Park for Exercise Spring Rose. The
exercise was designed to test the Gunners close
combat skills in a demanding environment.
Gunner Gareth Lueng, aged 27, who has been
in the TA for four years, found the exercise to
be quite a challenge.“It’s been very hard work.
The terrain itself is undulating, it’s a bit up
and down; there’s lots of boggy patches and
ditches with streams everywhere, so it can be
quite tiring just running through that. It’s good
physical fitness too, and I enjoy being out in the
countryside.”
208 Bty is preparing to send several Gunners
on Operations to Afghanistan. The training
concentrated on counter IED trg and close
combat skills. The Exercise was supported by 33
Sig Sqn(V) based in Huyton who provided the
OPFOR team
for the
Exercise.
