Holcombe Moor
SHELLEY’S SPECIAL AWARD
Lt Shelley Whitehead of Lancashire ACF was presented
with a special award in recognition of her work in
education, sport and for the military (through her
roles from being a TA soldier to now being a cadet
officer).
During the ceremony, Lt Whitehead who had been
nominated for over 30 years of voluntary service in
the two roles mentioned above was presented with a
commemorative certificate and an exclusive pin badge.
Lt Whitehead was sat at the same table as the guest
of honour “Gusta”, who served with the RAF as a spy
behind enemy lines in Norway, and found it informing
to share the same type of experiences as a serving
soldier in modern times to the women who served
during the Second World War.
and Fyske at the awards ceremony
Current and aspiring NCOs from
Corunna Company, Lancashire
ACF have survived a gruelling NCO
Cadre weekend at Holcombe Moor.
The main emphasis of the cadre
was to provide an opportunity to
develop the leadership skills and
character required of a good cadet
NCO.
Modelled on the Cambrian
Patrol Competition but suitably
adapted for cadets, the weekend
proved to be a very physically and
mentally demanding experience,
albeit a rewarding one. Cadets
were tested on leadership and
teamwork ability, patrolling,
writing and receiving orders,
navigation, emergency first aid
and platoon size attacks.
Working together to share
resources and training, cadets
from Blackburn Royal Marine
Cadets provided the deadly
and effective enemy force that
doggedly harried the cadre.
Successful candidates were
awarded a cadre t-shirt to
commemorate their success.
