103 Regt RA (V) will represent 42 (NW)
Brigade in the TA National Cup after
their success over 156 Tpt Regt (V) in the
42 Bde Western Area Cup Final.
103 had most of the possession in the
opening 20 minutes with Gnr Jones and
LBdr Murphy pulling the strings but
never really testing Pte Clarke in the 156
goal.
The breakthrough for the Gunners
came on the half hour mark when Gnr
Jones crossed for Gnr Duxbury to place a
neat side foot beyond the out-stretched
Pte Clarke. The tie was levelled when Sgt
Rook was deemed to have fouled OCdt
Grech in the box, five minutes from half
time. Pte Crumblehome stepped up to
send Bdr Norbury, in the 103 goal, the
wrong way.
156 started the brighter in the second
half and LCpl Austin went close with a
shot from outside the area. Against the
run of play Gnr Smith finished a silky
move with a half volley from just inside
the box putting 103 Regt ahead. The lead
was short-lived when the ball broke to Pte
Mitchell who was unmarked in the box
and he made no mistake with his header.
The breakthrough was made when
the 103 left winger Cfn Rowell found
Gnr Duxbury on the penalty spot who
chipped the keeper. Substitute SSgt Culf,
who replaced Cfn Lowry, played an inch
perfect pass down the channel for Gnr
Duxbury to cut inside and complete an
excellent hat-trick with a well placed
side foot beyond the 156 keeper. 156 did
pull one back in injury time through Pte
Board but it was nothing more than a
consolation with the game ending 4–3.
103 were presented the cup by 42 Bde
Comd, Brig Bill Aldridge. The event,
supported by Liverpool FA, also raised
£862 on the night for Help for Heroes.

Gunners ‘leg it’ for charity
Gunners from 103 Regt RA Volunteers took part in the Liverpool Half
Marathon. The team of 11 runners completed the 13 mile course around the
City, raising over £2000 for service charities including Help for Heroes.
