The State Legislature will have a new look come January, and we will be on the front lines educating any newly-elected officials on our industry and the issues that matter most to us. transitioned from a newsletter format to a magazine style to accommodate more advertisers, additional in-depth articles and regulatory details members need. In this issue, our industry suppliers (Allieds) are featured. Our Allied members have a reputation of delivering great products and services to our members, so I encourage you to look at our list of allied members if you are considering anything from linens, to energy efficiency to various insurance needs. Make sure if you contact them you tell them you are a NYSH&TA member, because often times there is a preferred pricing structure for you. Nancy S. Boucher Education & Events Manager 4 | FOCUS Fall/Winter 2012 With that being said, as an industry we can’t lose sight of the personal and professional needs of those who were directly impacted by Hurricane Sandy. The struggles and problems will persist for many of our members in the New York City area and on Long Island and Staten Island, so I encourage you to help, if you can, by donating to a charity of your choice that is assisting in the rebuilding effort. Our plan in Albany is to continue to build on the legislative momentum we created during this year’s Legislative Session. During the first half of the year, NYSH&TA, in partnership with other tourism promotion agencies, was successful in helping secure an increase for tourism marketing and promotion in the 2012-2013 State Budget when compared to 2011-2012. With State Budget spending being cut at every corner, additional funds to promote New York State as a top-notch tourism destination, was a great victory for the industry. This issue of Focus magazine completes our first year with a new look. Last Fall we I would also like to take this opportunity to bring your attention to the many accomplishments of our members in our “Members in the News” section on pages 26 to 32. To see all of the prestigious awards our members have collected is a testament to all of their hard work. Please remember that all members are encouraged to submit their good news to us so we can give the proper recognition in our magazine. In closing, I can’t stress enough that the deadline for pool lift compliance is January 31, 2013. The industry fought the good fight to secure a lengthy extension to the compliance date, but the time has now come to be compliant.
